2017-18 Objectives and
Strategies
Goal: Professional Development
• Objective:
• Increase availability of training and educational opportunities to enable
members to meet and exceed the USDA Professional Standards regulation,
thereby to achieve success in their professional development goals.
• Strategies:
• Continue to promote and host the SNA Credentialing study group program to
FSNA Members free of charge and for a small fee for non-members. Promote
and host the exam once a year.
• Create a taskforce lead by the President-Elect to acquire conference content
that meets all levels of membership.
• Membership & Marketing Committee researches cost effective training videos
that could be uploaded to FSNA website for all members to use for staff
training.

Goal: Advocacy and Public Image
• Objective:
• Increase efforts to improve understanding and knowledge by policy makers and
other stakeholders of the scope and complexity of school nutrition operations.
• Strategies:
• Membership & Marketing Committee will work on developing a marketing
video that highlights Florida’s School Food Program and showcases Nurturing
the Next Generation one meal at a time throughout the state.
• Region Directors take a group selfie at their Region Seminars and post a photo
and a positive message to the FSNA Facebook page about the Seminar.
• Membership & Marketing Committee will work to increase the number of
Facebook, Twitter and Instagram followers.
• FSNA Members will contact their elected officials and share their own 30
second story on how they are impacting and nurturing the next generation one
meal at a time.

• Objective:
• Increase individual and School District Owned Memberships and member
retention.
• Strategies:
• Region Directors will include a “Best Practices” breakout session at the Region
Seminars.
• Membership & Marketing Committee will update/develop marketing materials
that can be used to recruit new members.
• Region Directors will develop a plan to identify and recruit Future Leaders.
• FSNA staff will send a letter to each director in Florida asking that they consider
a state-only or dual, School District Owned Membership.

• Objective:
• Develop and implement a Strategic Plan for the growth and strengthening of
FSNA.
• Strategies:
• The President and President-Elect will work with the Board to schedule a time
to draft a Strategic Plan at an upcoming Board meeting.
• Restructure and reformat the FSNA Expo and Annual Conference into one
Expo/Education event taking place in the fall of each year.
• Develop a spring education and networking event to provide education and
networking opportunities that will reengage Directors, Supervisors and
Dietitians with FSNA.
• Membership & Marketing Committee and Administrative/Supervisory Section
Chair work to update the marketing materials used to promote FSNA to increase
membership.

• Develop and implement a Strategic Plan for the growth and strengthening of FSNA.
• Strategies:
• Provide Region Seminars in the spring of each year to allow Florida School Food
Personnel to access training, award development support and networking
opportunities while incurring minimal travel expenses.
• Resolutions & Bylaws Committee will work with FSNA staff to research and develop
amendments to be proposed to the Board for consideration. Areas to review:
• Membership dues
• Timing of the Annual Conference
• Committee membership eligibility criteria
• Conduct survey of FSNA Membership to better understand why they join, renew
membership and engage with FSNA.
• Review 2017 House of Delegates data and develop two support mechanisms for the
local chapters.

• Have a member of your local chapter participate in the SNS Study Group and
take the SNS Exam.
• Provide 1 hour of professional development at one of your local chapter
meetings using resources provided to you by FSNA.
• Provide the local chapter and board meeting schedule for 2017-18 SY to your
Region Director by November 1st.

• Chapter members will invite their local representative to attend the FSNA
Annual Conference.
• Chapters will establish Facebook pages, Twitter accounts or Instagram accounts
and connect with other local chapters using the site.
• Have 25 local members “like” the FSNA Facebook page.
• Local chapters will post a group photo on Facebook at a local meeting.
• Have the local schools post the many great things going on in our schools during
the NSBW, NSLW, Pajama Day, Grand Parent Day, Holiday Meal.
• Send one chapter member to Florida Legislative Action Caucus that has never
attended.

• Nominate a chapter member for an FSNA Award or Scholarship.

• Submit list of 2017-18 Local Chapter officers to FSNA state office by October 1st.
• Submit a list of all district personnel with contact information to FSNA by
October 1st.
• Explore one new way to improve attendance at Region Seminars, i.e. providing
child care at the Seminar.
• Explore one new way to improve attendance at Chapter meetings.
• Bring a chapter created, themed basket to the FSNA Expo/Conference for the
Silent Auction.
• Financially support one Chapter member in attending the FSNA
Expo/Conference.
• Host a Chapter Table at the FSNA Expo/Conference to support the local chapter
members while they are at the conference.
