This class will include: Learning to draft a log cabin block in a triangle Learning the importance of completing a road map for construction of the quilt Discussion of color values and movement Options for printing paper piecing patterns Making blocks using paper piecing foundations Discussion of border options Each student will be provided with a packet that contains: Drafting instructions 8” triangle pattern (numbered) Roadmap to be colored Construction details Sample road map Sample of different types of foundation papers (will vary by packet) The class starts off with the details of drafting any size pattern, moves into the discussion of color and value, progresses to each student coloring in their roadmap, with the majority of the class spent with each student making blocks using the pre-printed foundation papers provided in their class packet. Given the individual level of progression, questions are welcome at every point. There is very little “lecture” time. Sample blocks are used for demonstration in the class. Fabric Requirements You may cut strips of all fabrics that are one and one quarter (1 ¼) inch wide. Supplies needed: Basic Sewing Kit (Machine in good working order, machine cord/pedal, straight pins, fabric scissors, paper scissors, needles, thread, notebook, pen/pencils, 18” ruler, rotary cutter, cutting mat, iron, and of course chocolate) Colored pencils (whatever you have will work, these are needed to color in your “roadmap” so you can sew your pieces together.)
