Port Otago South Island Secondary Schools Sunburst Regatta Otago Yacht Club, Dunedin April 4 – 8 April 2016 The Organising Authority is Ravensbourne Boating Club, Dunedin NOTICE OF RACE 1 1.1 RULES The regatta will governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing 2013 - 2016 1.2 The Yachting New Zealand Safety Regulations Part 1 shall apply. 1.3 For protests where only a Rule of Part 2 is alleged to have been broken an arbitration hearing will be offered prior to a formal hearing. 2 ADVERTISING 3 3.1 3.2 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY The regatta is open to all boats of the Sunburst class. Eligible boats may enter by completing the attached form and sending it, together with the required fee to RBC Sunburst Regatta C/- 97 Manapouri Street, Maia, Dunedin, attention T. Waterhouse by Friday 25 March 2016. Late entries will be accepted under the following conditions: that contact is made to the Organiser prior to Friday 1 April with notification of intent to race and that an entry form is received by 0930hrs Monday 4 April 2016. Each entrant and crew member shall be a student of a South Island Secondary School. If the entry is from a Year 7 to 13 schools then the Year 7 and 8 students may sail as a part of the crew, a senior student Year 9 to 13 must be the other crew member. Each entrant and crew shall be entered on the school team roster that is signed by the Principal of that school. 3.3 3.4 3.5 4 FEES Required fees are as follows: $140.00 per Sailor 5 5.1 SCHEDULE Registration: Monday 4 April 2016. From 0830hrs to 0915hrs at Otago Yacht Club The scheduled time of the warning signal for each day is 1025hrs. On Friday 8 April no warning signal will be made after 1400 hours. 5.2 5.3 6 MEASUREMENTS Each boat shall produce a valid measurement certificate if requested by the Race Committee. 7 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS The sailing instructions will be available after 0830hrs on Monday 4 April 2016 at Otago Yacht Club 8 8.1 8.2 VENUE Attachment A.1 shows the location of the regatta venue. Attachment A.2 shows the location of the racing areas. 9 THE COURSES The courses to be sailed may be as follows: Windward/Leeward, Triangular, Point to Point, Slalom, Gate 10 PENALTY SYSTEM 11 11.1 11.2 SCORING 4 races are required to be completed to constitute a series. No score will be excluded. 12 SUPPORT BOATS Support boats shall be marked with an official school pennant. 13 BOAT STORAGE Boats may be kept on the Otago Yacht Club grounds. 14 LAUNCHING Unless otherwise directed by the Organising Authority, all competing boats and equipment shall be launched and retrieved from the public ramp way between the Otago Yacht Club and the blue University Yacht Club building. 17 RADIO COMMUNICATION Except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones. 16 PRIZES Prizes will be given as follows: 1st Spinnaker 1st Non Spinnaker 1st Gold Fleet 1st Silver 1st All female crew 1st Otago Regional School 1st School Overall 1st Handicap 17 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk.
