Older Peoples Housing Strategy Group Older People Website Background: • • • Following a comprehensive review of Extra Care Housing and Home Improvement Agency Strategy the County Council is turning its attention to the range of other housing support services provided for older people. These include the sheltered housing services currently provided to over 5000 households at a cost of about £1.5m. At the heart of the review is a wish to work in partnership with communities, health and social care providers, housing authorities, housing associations and the private sector to maintain the independence of older people in their own home, avoiding the need for admission to hospital or residential care The outcome of the review will be agreement on the range of services to be provided from October 2016. Older Peoples Housing Strategy Group Older People Website Engagement: During this phase of the review we will be working with older people, service users, providers and other stakeholders seeking answers to questions including: • What services do people value and want? • How to make best use of resources available? • What are the gaps in support for older people at present? • What support do older people actually want? • What are good and bad aspects of the current sheltered housing service? • How can we best ensure older people have best quality of life and stay independent? • Should we carry on providing sheltered housing or focus service on people that need it rather than the buildings?
