AWARD WINNING COMPETITION TEAM PACKET 2015-2016
Competition Teams:
Hudson Dance Academy currently has 6 award winning competition lines. Placement for each team depends on a

HDA proudly offers the students the experience of an award winning dance team experience without the stress. We
work hard to ensure that all parents and dancers are well informed and educated so that we may provide the stressfree competition experience.
Being part of a competition dance team requires a lot of time and commitment. This experience is not to be taken
lightly. This commitment is not just for your dancer, but a parent’s involvement is very important as well, and takes
just as much commitment as the dancers.
IF YOU ARE NOT FLEXIBLE IN YOUR SCHEDULE AND ABLE TO MAKE THE LARGE TIME COMMITMENT

competition experience. There are no exceptions to any of these policies, rules or requirements, unless extreme
circumstances occur. These are evaluated as we encounter these extreme circumstances.
Competition season starts with Summer Dance requirements.
Sumer Dance Camp: All dancers wanting to be placed on a competition line and intend to attend placement
auditions must attend summer dance camp. This is a week-long camp where your dancer will be participating in
ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, musical theater and leaps/turns. Over 35 hours of dance! They learn technique and
improve their skills. There is a special showcase performance at the end of the week for parents. This dance camp is
open to all HDA dancers, not just competition lines, but is a requirement for our competition lines. This year Dance
th
th
Camp is Monday – Friday July 13 – 17 , 2015.
If you are brand new to competition we also require Ballet Intensive, Stretching/Conditioning/Leaps & Turns and Tap
Intensive. This does all depend on age. Our summer dance requirements helps prepare your dancer for the new
dance season on dance a team.
th
Placement auditions are on Saturday July 18 , 2015. These auditions are required and your dancer will not be
placed on a team if she/he is not in attendance. Auditions are $20, and you do need to register previous to audition
day. A parent is required to attend auditions and fill out the appropriate paperwork on the day of auditions. Please
note this change and plan accordingly. Your dancer will not be able to audition if a parent/guardian is not in
attendance. Please note that auditions at Hudson Dance Academy are not placement auditions. If your dancer is not
placed on a team this year, we will be more than happy to work with you and your dancer with class placement for the
fall to help better prepare for next year’s auditions.

Competitions are the highlight of our year. It’s what we work so hard for throughout the dance season. All dance
competitions are put on the schedule tentatively as things can change. A concrete competition schedule will be

scheduling vacations. The details for each competition are not released until the week prior to the competition. This

All families are responsible for their own transportation to and from each competition and/or dance event.
Mothers or a female adult (father or male adult for male dancers) must be at all competitions with your dancer to help
get them ready. You cannot rely on HDA staff or other parents to do this for you. Fathers and male adults are not
allowed in the female dressing room areas. It must be a mother or female adult, and vice versa for male dancers.
Dancers are not able to get fully ready on their own, even the older girls. This is a big event in your child’s life. Be
present for them and be there to cheer them on and their teammates.
