ACHIEVING SPORTS AND EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE
ELIGIBILITY:
The Award is open to all young artists and writers that fit into the categories listed. Applicants must provide
proof of age with their applications.
PARAMETERS:
A student may enter into all of the categories listed, but only ONE of those entries can be selected by the
school for the Overall Winner consideration, in each category.
Requirements:
Each Entry to be submitted for the Overall Winner Contest, must comply with the following:
 Fully completed Entry Form.
 The completed work, as per the guidelines provided.
 A fully completed ART AFFIDAVIT or POETRY WRITING AFFIDAVIT, or ESSAY WRITING
AFFIDAVIT. (This confirms that the work is solely the effort of the student.)
 A copy of Birth Certificate or other proof of age.

GUIDELINES
General:
The piece of art work must be about any aspect of Sports and the Olympic Values of Excellence, Fair Play
and Respect. The inclusion of any cultural aspect would heighten the impression of the art work, e.g. what
can the artistic student include or portray in their work that would have a Fiji, Oceanic, or Pacific flavour?
How would someone viewing the art work in Greece recognize the piece as being from the Pacific?
It must be the sole work and effort of the student. Teachers will be trusted to ensure that since they know
their students’ giftedness and skill they will be able to vouch for the originality of any entry.
Submission of Entries
Each piece of ART Entry must:
 Be submitted by the 30th July by 5pm.
 Have with it, a completed ENTRY FORM, AFFIDAVIT and JUDGES’ FORM.
 All application forms and artwork to be delivered and addressed to Get Set team Fiji TV Gorrie street
or to the Fiji Arts Council Office, Level 1 Procera Building, Waimanu Rd, Suva

The Art piece MUST be presented on A4.
It must be mounted, i.e. cardboard backing and a facing mount (frame). The use of coloured board or white
board for the mount is acceptable.
No names/initials to appear on the front of the Art work.

CREATIVE WRITING
GUIDELINES:
POETRY
The poem must be the entire work of the student. The content is important and must portray in word-picture,
convincing enthusiasm for sports and the Olympic Values of Excellence, Fair Play and Respect. Cultural
inclusions will help identify with Fiji, Oceania or the Pacific. The correct use of rhythm and style in poetic
form must be used. It helps convey and express.
THE POEM:
 Must be the student’s own work.
 Ensure that there is no plagiarism (copying from someone else’s poem).
 The poem must be about any aspect of Sports and the Olympic Values of Excellence, Fair Play and
Respect. :
winning, losing, achieving, disappointments, highlights, successes, the glory of sports, sports in our
country, schools, communities, regions, how sports builds good character, makes us decent effective
human beings, how sports reaches across great divides and penetrates barriers of race, class, religion,
and how sports affects our lives for positive things, etc. etc. etc.
 The poem must have a minimum of 12 lines and no more than 24.
The Poem must be entered as follows:
 Typed on A4, with single spacing. Typed ON ONE SIDE ONLY.
 Font size must be 12 and the style easily read, e.g. Times New Roman or Arial.
 No distracting borders.
 A copy of the Poem.
 A completed Entry Form.
 A completed Poetry Writing Affidavit.
 A Judges’ Form.

The topic for Essay Writing is a choice from those that are given below;
“My Sports Role-Model.”
“A Challenging Sports Experience.”
“The Value of Sports.”
 The Essay can include any of the following aspect of Sports and the Olympic Values of Excellence,
Fair Play and Respect. :
winning, losing, achieving, disappointments, highlights, successes, the glory of sports, sports in our
country, schools, communities, regions, how sports builds good character, makes us decent effective
human beings, how sports reaches across great divides and penetrates barriers of race, class, religion,

The Poem must be typed on one side ONLY. If several sheets of paper are required then this is permissible. The
pages must be numbered.
There is a limit of 12 lines and not more than 24 lines.
The Poem may be framed (as in PC framing for WORD documents), using a single line and nothing elaborate or
gaudy that would detract from the poem.
ONLY the NAME and SCHOOL of the student will appear at the very end of the typed Poem, bottom left of the
sheet.
