Scar Top Play Area Consultation

Scar Top Play Area Consultation
Scar Top is at the centre of Barnard Castle providing
residents and visitors alike with an important focal green
space and opportunities to relax and appreciate the
qualities of the Castle. However, many of the facilities are
looking tired and worn and it has accumulated a large
number of signs and items of street furniture over the
years. This has meant that some of its virtues are less
visible and remain under appreciated.
With the submission of the Heart of Teesdale Landscape
Partnership bid, which intends to secure approximately £2
million of Heritage Lottery Funding for landscape and
community improvements, there is now an outstanding
opportunity to renew and upgrade the facilities around
Scar Top, but most importantly, without damaging the
qualities of the space itself.
A planning proposal is due to be submitted in the next
couple of weeks for the whole of the Scar Top site and
includes the intention to upgrade and enlarge the current
play area (see front cover and below). More detailed plans
for the play area will be drawn up over the next couple of
months and views are now being sought on what play
equipment and facilities users would like to see included.
