Miles Davis He was born on May 26, 1926 in Alton, IL. He died on Sept. 28, 1991. His father was a dental surgeon. His mother was a music teacher. His father introduced the trumpet to him at age 13. His private tutor encouraged him to play without vibrato, which was contrary to the style of Louis Armstrong.
