BASEBALL BLURBS BY BRUCE
Bruce Bennett, AppleSox Statistician
Corvallis 7, Wenatchee 4 last night.
Corvallis (4-4) at Wenatchee (1-4) 6:05 tonight.
The AppleSox only won one of their first five league games once before (2007), but came back to go
22-14 the rest of the way and finish second in the East.
The Edge Goes to Trevor
Trevor Williams, the second-year Wenatchee radio broadcaster, is “one in a million.” At least it seems
that way. I’ve been listening to baseball games on the radio and TV for a “couple” years and he uses
a correct term when 99 percent of all broadcasters are totally wrong. To describe where some pitches cross the plate Trevor says “inside EDGE” or “outside EDGE.” From big-name national guys on
down, find one who says edge instead of corner. There are five corners on the plate and a pitch right
smack down the middle goes over A corner. But not once in the history of broadcasting has that ever
been called. All the pitches that are said to go over a corner are actually going over two corners.
Again, in the history of horsehide broadcasting no one has ever said, “the pitch was over the inside
corners.” It is so elementary, one call is right and one is wrong. And thousands of folks behind the
mic in the past, present and future just blab away parroting their dead-wrong predecessors. Nice job
Trevor!
June 14 Games
When your team colors are red, white and blue this is a big day. Overall Wenatchee has celebrated
Flay Day with 9 wins in 13 games. They are 5-3 league, 4-1 nonleague, 6-2 home, 3-2 away, but
have dropped their last two.
