NORTH WEST REGIONAL COLLEGE JOB DESCRIPTION POST TITLE: SAFEGUARDING OFFICER RESPONSIBLE TO: Principal & Chief Executive REPORTING TO: Principal Lecturer - Student Support & Inclusive Learning LOCATION: The successful applicant may be required to work in any of the College’s buildings, as necessary. The initial location will be Strand Road Campus. MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB: The Safeguarding Officer ensure an effective and efficient safeguarding service relating to all College students, providing advice and guidance to staff as appropriate. The Safeguarding Officer will be responsible for making external referrals as appropriate. The Postholder will: 1 take responsibility as the designated Safeguarding Officer and work autonomously as an advanced practitioner; 2 be responsible for conducting risk assessment and analysis; 3 develop, implement and monitor appropriate safeguarding policies and ensure the robust development and implementation of a Safeguarding Disclosure system for the disclosure of student Criminal History; 4 support the Principal Lecturer - Student Support & Inclusive Learning by leading on the Health & Welfare function relating to student services; 5 develop partnerships with relevant stakeholders for the benefits of students; 6 monitor student welfare, understand and apply the thresholds of serious harm in regards to Adult Safeguarding including students living in residence and liaise, where appropriate, with appropriate, with accommodation providers; 7 support the promotion of personal development through the provision of a student listening ear service; 8 be responsible for the management of staff within the Safeguarding Team; 9 liaise with staff across the College to provide advice and support as appropriate; 10 liaise with external agencies as appropriate and where appropriate provide expert advice in complex social issues at strategy meeting/case conferences. This includes contributing to risk assessment and multi-agency protection plans for complex cases or where appropriate; 11 provide advice and guidance to staff, managers and other stakeholders; 12 update and review policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legislation; 13 be responsible for the implementation of College Policies and procedures to ensure compliance; 14 represent the College on committees and working groups as directed; 15 contribute to the College Development Plan; 16 keep up-to-date with current and new legislation and guidelines as appropriate; 17 design and deliver training and staff development in relation to safeguarding; 18 contribute to the College student induction programme; 19 undertake appropriate checks to assess for suitability for employment/placement; 20 comply with and actively promote College policies and procedures on all aspects of equality; 21 ensure full compliance with Health and Safety requirements and legislation in accordance with College policies and procedures; 22 ensure full compliance with the College’s quality assurance systems and procedures in accordance with College policies and procedures; 23 undertake any other duties as required by the College’s Principal and Chief Executive or persons carrying his delegated authority. The hours of duty which may be on any of the College sites will be such as laid down to meet the needs of the College and may include periods of duty after, as well as before 5.00 pm on any Monday to Friday. Annual Leave Entitlement Entitlement to annual leave is 23 days in a full holiday year in addition to 12 public and extra statutory holidays.
