Make a Move
Ballarat Workplace Health and Wellbeing
Ballarat Community Health and Central Highlands Primary Care Partnership invite general practices,
allied health practices, hospitals and specialist centres located within the City of Ballarat local
government boundary, to participate in a joint initiative to promote physical activity in their
workplace using the Achievement Program.
As a health service provider, health professionals within your organisation would frequently be
involved in advising patients of healthy lifestyle choices including advice on physical activity. To
promote an organisation that “practices what it preaches” would be a fantastic role model and
motivational tool for your patients as well as improving the health of your employees.
Sixty percent of Australian adults do not get enough exercise, 63% are overweight or obese and
physical activity is the fourth leading risk factor for mortality. In addition healthy employees are 3
times more productive and take less sick leave than unhealthy workers.
The Make-A-Move Ballarat initiative provides the opportunity to work through the Achievement
Program collectively with other organisations and businesses. Meeting on a monthly basis,
workplaces can share ideas and strategies to promote physical activity in the workplace and receive
guidance on working through the Achievement Program’s physical activity benchmarks.
It is anticipated that health care practices will initiate many innovative ideas which can then be
shared with other practices.
If you cannot make the meetings you can always receive one-on-one support from Ballarat
Community Health.
