fermacell Powerpanel H2O Accessories:
fermacell Powerpanel H2O Screws:
For fixing Powerpanel H2O boards to steel studs.
Around a wood burning stove,
fire rated plasterboard won’t meet
the building regs - and with specialist
fire protection boards, you’re paying
for more than you need.
That’s why fermacell Powerpanel H2O
is the perfect choice - it gives you
all the heat resilience you need up to 200°C - without the expense of
a more specialist board or heavy masonry.

The ideal alternative
to specialist boards.
Originally developed for harsh environments, Powerpanel
H20 has now been tested and approved as a wood burner
backing board. Powerpanel H20 is a cement-bonded
light-concrete construction board with a laminated
structure, reinforced on both sides beneath the surface
with an alkali-resistant glass fibre mesh (5mm x 5mm).
Powerpanel H20 is non combustible and conforms to
construction material class A1. Powerpanel H20 is the ideal
board to use for lining behind wood burning and solid fuel
stoves, performing with temperatures of up to 200˚C.
Using simple construction techniques, fermacell
Powerpanel H20 is as easy to use as it’s light and thin,
compared to heavy masonry. Being only 12.5mm thick, it can
be easily cut to size with a portable circular saw. Curves or
angled cuts can be achieved with a jigsaw or core drill. The
boards are then fixed to a stud framework using fermacell
Powerpanel H20 screws and there is no need for pre-drilling.
Fixing Options:
Each face of any opening/recess should be boarded in a single
sheet. This removes the need for any board joints along the
length of the wall sections, placing them into corners.
1. Fixing to solid brick or blockwork
N.B. Do NOT Dot and Dab fermacell Powerpanel H2O
Q
Fit a metal furring top hat channel (50mm wide) to the wall at
maximum 600mm centres with mechanical fixings at 400mm
centres vertically. Fix the Powerpanel H2O to the metal furring
with Powerpanel screws (maximum 200mm centres).
Q
Alternatively, fit Powerpanel H2O with a suitable heat resistant
adhesive or heat resistant tile adhesive on the back. Once cured,
mechanically fix with suitable screws at 400mm centres, both
horizontally and vertically. Check the performance of wall fixing
components before use.
Note: Powerpanel H2O does not stop heat transferring through the
board. For protection to services and other fixtures within or on
the other side of the wall, use a suitable stonewool insulation.
3. Finishing
Q
Internal corners can then be either butt-jointed or filled with
fermacell Powerpanel H2O Surface Finish or a heat resistant
adhesive.
Q
fermacell Powerpanel H2O Surface Finish can be used to spot
fixings, prior to applying a suitable paint for high temperature
areas. Filling of the fixing heads usually needs two fills. Ensure
all indents are filled, sanded and free from dust prior to painting.
Refer to the paint manufacturer’s guidelines.
Q
Alternatively the whole area can be finished with fermacell
Powerpanel H2O Surface Finish, spot fixing heads first, allowing
it to dry, before going over the whole surface. Typically a 2mm
finish is sufficient - Apply fermacell Powerpanel H2O Surface
Finish in the same way a skim finish is applied to plasterboard.
Fill to a maximum thickness of 6mm, in 2mm layers. Each layer
must be allowed to dry before applying the next.
