The High Priest

Represented the people before God
and was allowed to enter the holiest
sanctuary once a year on the
Day of Atonement
Also served in the holy sanctuary
and in the court of the tabernacle.
THE PRIESTHOOD
The Priest
There were very many priests
Undertook many duties involving
the furniture in the court and
the holy sanctuary
Were allowed to enter
the court and the holy sanctuary
but not the holiest sanctuary
Offered up on the altar the
sacrifices the people brought.
THE COLOURS OF THE FABRICS
OF THE TABERNACLE
White of the fine linen spoke
of purity and righteousness
Blue is the heavenly colour
Purple is the colour associated with
royalty and riches
Scarlet is the colour of blood and speaks of death.
THE MATERIALS OF THE TABERNACLE
ACACIA WOOD
The acacia was a tree of the wilderness
It was a durable hardwood and was
white in colour
Acacia wood speaks of the true humanity
of Christ.
THE MATERIALS OF THE TABERNACLE
GOLD
This was obtained from the Egyptians after the
death of the firstborn sons as an encouragement
to the Israelites to leave
Gold was a malleable material suitable for covering items
and could be beaten into different forms
Gold speaks of deity.
THE MATERIALS OF THE TABERNACLE
SILVER
This was obtained from the redemption half-shekel
paid by all males aged over 20 years when God
numbered the people
Silver is a harder metal than gold and suggests durability
Silver speaks of redemption.
THE MATERIALS OF THE TABERNACLE
BRASS or COPPER
Copper was used in a number of instances
as a sealed covering for the acacia wood
This strengthened and enabled the acacia
wood to endure high temperatures
Copper speaks of the ability and strength of Christ
to endure that great suffering for sin and sins
when He died on Calvary.

IN CONCLUSION . . .
Study of the Tabernacle directs our attention
to that which is precious to God
It challenges us as to what we regard as precious
and what we value in our lives
What we value affects the way in which we behave
Even more important is that the way we behave
shows to those around us the things we value
Our testimony as believers is established by the way
we behave and that testimony cannot be changed
- it is written indelibly.
REMEMBER . . .
You are writing each day a letter to men
Take care that the writing is true;
'Tis the only gospel that some men will read,
That gospel according to you.
You are writing each day a letter to men
You are that
writing each
day a letter
to men
Take care
the
writing
is true
Take care that the writing is true;
'Tis the only gospel that some men will read,
That gospel according to you.
’Tis the only gospel some persons will read
The gospel according to you.
