Community theatre is thriving in East York as The East Side Players celebrate their 50th anniversary
season (and over 40 years at the Papermill Theatre).
This theatre is off-the-beaten-track —literally. Located at 67 Pottery Road down in the Don Valley Ravine,
it’s a short downhill jaunt from Broadview and Mortimer.
It was well worth the chilly trek down to Papermill on Sat. Feb. 25 to take in their raucous production of
“Picasso At The Lapin Agile” written by comedy legend Steve Martin. The play is about a fictitious 1904
meeting between Pablo Picasso and Albert Einstein at the non-fictitious Lapin Agile cabaret bar in Paris.
Stand-out performances include self proclaimed “Fanshawe College dropout” Declan Ryan as a young
Picasso and Steve Ness as the farcical Gaston. Prepare for a very special mystery guest to appear near the
end of the play!
The current production debuted Feb. 24 and runs daily through Sat. March 11. Ticket prices range from
$17 to $24.
East Side Players is a charitable, non profit, community run theatre. They are currently seeking volunteers
