The FEAST 2017 is now behind us and we are grateful to
God and St. Anthony for the blessing of good weather! The
success of our FEAST is not in the revenues raised (although
for these revenues we are grateful!) but in the community we
build in faith. The theme of our FEAST is faith, family, and
fun ……...and indeed in these four days we brought together
our family to have fun with faith as our foundation. It is with
the eyes of faith that we find our success and overcome every
obstacle.
I am grateful to Ann Marie and Bryan Peterson for their
efforts once again in coordinating our Annual St. Anthony
Feast. They have spent the better part of six months
in planning and preparing for these four days. The daily tasks
through these many months of preparation could not have been
accomplished without our Parish Secretary Virginia Jediny.
She is indeed the glue that holds us together. Mike Keicher
and Victor Antonic are the "Church mice" who though hidden,
handle the heavy work of preparation and clean up after
everyone goes home. Our Knights of Columbus under the
leadership of Grand Knight Ray Parenteau and our faithful
membership once again gave generously of their time and
energy. We are all grateful to the many Feast Sponsors who
through their gifts help to underwrite our Feast. It was through
the efforts of Sue Keicher and Gerry Vitale that we were able
to secure a record number of sponsors. Thank you to the many
Family Sponsors who made a difference in helping to
underwrite our costs. Our Parish Food stand was a great
success due to the hard work of many dedicated members of
the Committee under the leadership of Jim and Nicole Motley
and Dave and Linda Farrell. The Feast was well advertised
through the efforts of Leona Seufert and our Procession once
again well organized under the direction of Tom Grasso and
Vinnie Bonasissa. The entertainment was coordinated by
Anthony Giordano and we are grateful for the well
orchestrated productions. Our St. Anthony Feast Tent which
protected the statue of St. Anthony and the many items to
promote devotion was organized beautifully by Mary
Stewart. To John Kennedy who supervised the Feast grounds
as our Operations manager and his army of volunteers..... a
sincere thank you! The Home-made Cookies and
Cafe prepared by our Rosarians under the direction of Annette
Venturo were a great success. I am grateful to all of the
"Rosary Bakers" for their cookies "made with love"! These
named are the Committee Chairs who depended upon the
many generous volunteers.
There would have been no electricity had it not been for
Keith Williams who did the permanent electrical work that will
enhance our Feast for years to come ....... thank you! Our
"Basket Ladies" under the direction of Ann Marie Peterson
used their creative talents to prepare the basket prizes once
again…… thank you! We are grateful to Carol and John
Ballantyne for obtaining donations of paper products from our
faithful supporters for our food tent. Our web site kept us
informed of all the Feast happenings and needs through the
efforts of Karen Colucci. To our Rosarians, the Women of
Assumption, the Women's Auxiliary-"Order of Martha",
Nancy Tortorelli who coordinated our Confirmation
Candidates and all of our faithful volunteers ........you are too
many to name..... thank you! To you who cooked, who
cleaned, who set up and broke down, who volunteered in any
manner; to you who purchased 50/50 tickets, ride tickets, food
and drink, and played the games; to you who walked with St.
Anthony in Procession and prayed with us ............. to all a
sincere THANK YOU!
Fr. Jim

Guidelines for the proper reception of Holy Communion
1. Catholics who have officially received their First Holy Communion
may approach to receive Communion at Mass after having examined
one's conscience and attended the Sacrament of Confession as needed.
2. As one approaches the Priest or Eucharistic Minister, slightly bow
the head or genuflect in reverence.
3. Respond to the Priest or Eucharistic Minister with a deliberate
AMEN.
4. The option is to receive on the tongue or in one's hands; hold both
hands up and out, one on top of the other.
5. It is disrespectful to "grab" the Eucharist from the hand of the
Priest. The Eucharist will be placed into the open hands of the recipient, and the recipient then takes the Host and places the Host into the
mouth.
6. The Host must be consumed immediately. The Host must not be
carried away, or held for a time, nor used to make the sign of the
Cross. The Host must be consumed immediately upon reception.
7. Only a designated Eucharistic Minister may bring Holy Communion to the sick.
Holy Communion for those with Celiac Disease at the Church of
the Assumption:
Please remember that for persons with celiac disease, the Eucharistic
Minister with the Cup will proceed to the usual place in front of the
Altar of the Blessed Virgin to distribute the Precious Blood of Our
Lord FIRST to those who approach with Celiac Disease. Persons
with Celiac Disease are unable to consume anything with
"gluten". The hosts used for Mass is made of simple wheat flour and
water. Wheat has gluten. The Eucharistic Minister will not have handled a host or any other gluten product to prevent "crosscontamination". The Eucharistic Minister will take the Cup from the
Altar not from the hand of the Priest who has touched a host. The
Cup will not have been used by any person who has touched a gluten
product. After those who need to come forward to receive the Precious Blood with out anyone else who has received the Host, then all
may follow to the same Cup. The question may be asked: can one
receive only the Precious Blood without taking the Host? The answer
is yes! Just as one will receive the Host without approaching the Cup,
so one can approach the Cup without taking a Host. Both the consecrated Host and Precious Blood contain in fullness the Body of
Christ, Soul and Divinity. It is not required to receive both. Reception of the Precious Blood is an option, and for those who are unable
to take gluten, the Cup becomes the best option.

Before receiving Holy Communion
Saint John Chrysostom
O Lord, I believe and profess that You are truly Christ, the Son of the
living God, Who came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am
the first. Accept me as a partaker of Your mystical supper, O Son of
God, for I will not reveal Your mystery to Your enemies, nor will I
give you a kiss as did Judas, but like the thief I confess to You:
Remember me, O Lord, when You come in Your kingdom.
Remember me, O Master, when You come in Your kingdom.
Remember me, O Holy One, when You come in Your kingdom.
May the partaking of Your Holy mysteries, O Lord, be not for my
judgment or condemnation, but for the healing of my soul and body. O
Lord, I also believe and profess that this, which I am about to receive,
is truly Your most precious body and Your life-giving blood, which, I
pray, make me worthy to receive for the remission of all my sins and
for life everlasting. Amen.
O God, be merciful to me a sinner.
O God, cleanse me of my sins and have mercy on me.
O Lord, forgive me for I have sinned without number.
Please pray for the repose of the
soul of the recently deceased:
+Rev. Michael V. Guglielmelli
Eternal Rest grant unto him, O Lord!
