2016-17 Narrative Assessment Plan Template Steps to include while conducting and reporting on your annual assessment activities: Step 1: Connect to Mission Outcomes should be tied to the mission and goals of the college. If you can demonstrate this connection, it is important to include it in the report but not required if not used to inform assessment discussions. Step 2: Identify Outcomes Identify the measurable knowledge, skills, behaviors, and/or attitudes of the learner at the end of a learning activity (class, course, program). What will students be able to think, know, or do as a result of the educational experiences? (Please specify whether this outcome primarily focused on the Major/Minor, Gen Ed, or both.) Step 3: Assess Learning Use at least one direct (assesses students’ demonstrated understanding or skill application. It is a data source or tool used to indicate the attainment of a student learning outcome by directly observing student demonstration of their knowledge or skill) measurement method per outcome. What assignments or projects demonstrate student learning outcomes can be measured? What evidence do you have regarding student engagement with the learning outcomes? Step 4: Analyze Results Describe the results of the assessment. Use tables and graphs if appropriate. Be sure to include the time period, number of students, etc. Do the results represent any trends? Do the results represent an acceptable level of achievement? What could be done to improve student learning? Do the results surprise you/your department/program? Step 5: Document Improvement—“Close the Loop” How did you use the results to improve learning or the program? Did you enact any curriculum or programmatic changes as a result of the assessment results? Step 6: Plan for the Future What will you do next? Do you plan to re-visit past assessment results? Will you move on to your next learning outcome? Assessment is a process, so discuss your next steps based on what you learned from the current results. 2016-17 Narrative Assessment Plan Department/Program: Prepared by: Assessment timeframe: Date Submitted: Step 1: Please briefly explain the connection between program goals and R-MC mission & curricular goals?
