Overall increase in the number of places allocated to schools
Particular focus on increasing places allocated to primary schools
Continued focus on quality
Maintain the proportion of partnerships led by outstanding schools
Increase schools’ confidence and ability to commission and deliver, in
partnership with ITT providers, teacher training that fully meets their
needs
 Government want to:
 Expand existing School Direct partnerships/alliances
 Increase awareness of School Direct with all schools and providers
not yet involved
 Help build large, sustainable school partnerships
 Attract primary schools not yet involved in School Direct to become
involved, particularly outstanding primary schools

 Letter from Charlie Taylor to Teaching Schools asking them to
increase their School Direct capacity through ‘affiliate
schools’
 Letter to outstanding lead schools asking them to expand
their partnerships
 Work with academy chains
SD Registration for 2014
 From 25 February schools register interest in School Direct
places for 2014
 A pre-requisite stage for all schools and to ask whether
they are registering places on behalf of a wider
partnership
as a lead school
or to join a partnership of schools
 Schools will be put on a mailing list and sent log in details to
request School Direct places
 Requests for places from June to September with decisions by
end of October
 Portal opens for applications in November
