Leadership in Literacy
The Board of Trustees and Superintendent Kevin Gietz are making available
Palliser’s first public report on our division’s commitment to literacy.
The four-page publication, titled “Leadership in Literacy,” is being distributed
widely to our stakeholders starting today.
A PDF is available for download by clicking here.
Please take a few minutes to review this document which celebrates the significant
effort made by staff across Palliser to support our students’ development of
essential literacy skills.
Parents Who Pray
Prayer is an integral part of worship and our faith journey. Prayer can bring us together
and lift us up as a community. Parents Who Pray is a group of parents who meet to bring
the joys and concerns of Menno Simons Christian School before the Lord. We pray for
students, teachers, staff and families at the school. Everyone is welcome to join us and
younger children may also attend. We pray on Wednesday mornings at 8:25 in the
volunteer room beside the library. There is a prayer box located on the trophy case if you wish to place a prayer
concern. All prayer requests will be kept confidential.
Menno Simons Christian School belongs to the Canadian Association of
Mennonite Schools (CAMS). CAMS was established with a few goals in mind,
one of them is to foster active connections between students, teachers and
administrators. The CAMS Music Festival brings together these 13 schools
that span across Canada and gives them an opportunity to share with each
other musically and socially.
This year, our school will be hosting the CAMS Music Festival. The theme for
this year’s festival is “Building Harmony: Connecting, Worshipping and
Celebrating”. The festival will take place on May 1st through May 4th and our senior choir students (Grades 4
and up) are involved. It will be a weekend full of building relationships with students from other schools,
singing as a united Body of Christ and participating in a concert performance.
In April 2011 students from Menno travelled to Winnipeg to attend the 2011 CAMS Music Festival. At that
time families from Winnipeg Mennonite Elementary School (WMES) hosted our students. It is now an
opportunity for us to return the favour to WMES. Being a host for the 2014 CAMS Music festival will greatly
enrich the experience for any children that you may have participating in this year’s Music Festival. There are
currently 45 students that need to be hosted from WMES. Please contact me if you are interested in hosting
students.
If you are interested in learning more about CAMS or want to get involved, please let me know!

MSCS Workshop – Self-Injury in Youth
Tuesday, March 18th, 2014 @ 7:00pm - School Library
Introduction to Understanding Non-Suicidal Self-Injury in Youth
Self-injury is a complex and difficult to understand phenomena facing parents with children of varying ages. Often, parents
are unsure about how to manage this complex behaviour and attribute it to be either a suicidal gesture or as an attentionseeking behaviour. This presentation has focus to help parents understand the nature of self-injury and highlights that
those who self-injure are coping with strong feelings in a maladaptive way.
Hana Mancuso, a psychologist with expertise in the treatment of adolescents, will help explore the myths and realities of
self-injury and what parents need to know in order to make informed decisions.
Please sign-up to attend this workshop at the Front Office.
