“I CAN PLAY THE NET”

Catch Ball
Goal: To understand the concept of volley (take ball before bounce).
Rules of the Game: Cooperatively throw underhand back and forth
with a partner. Players in teams (pairs). Both players are at net
position and must catch with one hand (FH side with dominant hand,
BH side with non-dominant hand). Team with the longest rally wins.
The rally is over when:
 The ball hits the ground
 The ball goes out of the designated play area
 The ball goes into the net
TACTICAL/TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT
During the activity only highlight one technical element. The activity may be repeated multiple times to
cover other elements.
TACTIC: To understand the tactic of playing the net
TECHNICAL KEY #1:
Set-up & Impact Point:
 Volleyers must catch the ball with
one hand, (dominant hand on FH
side, non-dominant hand on BH
side) in a sideways position, at chest
level, and out front
TECHNICAL KEY #2:
Volley position: Players start in
ready position two big steps from
net.
TECHNICAL KEY #3:
Volley “Catching Action”: Players
catch the ball with “soft hands” to absorb
the impact.
