Route Eight A circular route of eight miles, at an average speed of 4 mph, two hours of cycling time. Hemlock Stone – Wollaton Vale – Wollaton Park – Bramcote Hills. From the Hemlock Stone on Coventry Road, near to the junction with Ilkeston Road, proceed on the cycle path on the left hand side of Coventry Road. After nearly a mile, you will come to the disused Nottingham Canal, at this point you can cross the road onto the right hand side. Take the track that goes into Balloon Woods, the track drops down to go under the railway line, please be aware of the head room whilst cycling. Continue straight when you meet another track that crosses the track that you are on. Go down Wollaton Road, just after the bend and Rectory Gardens on your left, turn right into Wollaton Park, please use the gateway at the side, and not the cattle grid. On entering the park, then left through the car park, once through, turn right and head up towards the Hall, which will on your right as you approach the top. Once past the hall, the track that you are on will meet another one going across, turn right here and go back past the front of the Hall. At the end of the track you will come out into a housing estate, the road you will be on is Latimer Drive. Having past the Hall, take the left turn towards the toilets and tearooms, continue on this track, which will bend around the building, do not take the right hand track after this, keep straight on down to the lake. In a short distance, turn right into Wharfedale, then in a very short distance, turn left into Grangewood Road, continue on this road until you come to Wollaton Vale. As you approach the lake it should be on your right hand side, follow the lake around in a clockwise direction. Turn right onto Wollaton Vale and procced along until you come to the Hemlock Stone Inn, turn left at the roundabout and go up Bramcote Lane, At the top, the ‘T’ junction with the Wollaton Road, turn right in front of the Admiral Rodney. Once you have been ¾ of the way around the lake, and prior to going over a small bridge, take the track to the left, this will take you directly away from the lake.There is a sign at this point that shows the types of birds that are on the lake, please name three of them Answer There is a structure in the middle of the road as it meets the junction, what is it? At the end of this track you will exit the Park on the road ‘Parkside’, turn left, and immediately turn right into Wollaton Rise. The bottom of the rise meets Woolaton Vale, turn left, and the right into Woodbank Drive. At the end of Burnside, left into Thoresby Road, then after the crossing, a short distance, right into Glenside Road. At the end of Glenside, right into Balmoral Drive, follow the road around through two left hand bends, take the second road on the right, Deans Croft. Turn left at the end of Deans Croft into Moor Lane, proceed to the bottom where it joins the A52, at this point turn right onto the shared path, keeping the A52 on your left. Keep on this pathway past the Leisure Centre on your right, past the roundabout, then a short distance down the Ilkeston Road, turn into the park where there is a cycle track.
