Scouts Canada Requirements for Chainsaw Use & Tree-Felling
These guidelines apply equally to Scouts Canada employees and volunteers who use chainsaws
or fell trees on Scouts Canada property or as part of approved Scouting activities.

Use of chainsaws and tree felling must be conducted in accordance with Provincial safe work
standards and legislation.

Individuals using chainsaws must have completed chainsaw safety training comprising both a
theoretical as well as an in-practice component (for example:

Individuals using chainsaws must use the appropriate protective equipment:

Tree felling with chainsaws shall not be undertaken when youth are present on the property.
If there is a risk that a tree being felled could land within 10 feet of a building or electrical line,
an individual certified in tree-felling must be used to complete the work.
A process must be in place to ensure that work completed on Scouts Canada property is
conducted in accordance with these guidelines.
