KING’S OAK PRIMARY SCHOOL 35 East Crawford Street GREENOCK PA15 2DX 714680 December newsletter Dear parents, I would like to tell you about some of our exciting events last month and also, give you some dates for your diaries for this busy time of year! Athletics team Our athletics events have been very popular this month. Again, staff have commented positively on behaviour, effort and attitude of all children involved. Well done! Thank you to Mrs. Bowes for organising this activity. Parents’ Night We were delighted to see so many parents. It is really important that we work together to ensure that all of our pupils are achieving their best! Thank you to everyone who came along, especially those who provided tea, coffee, baking etc. All the comments on the noticeboard were appreciated greatly! P7 Football Miss Cordiner and Mr Thomson have been encouraging our P6 and P7 boys to participate in football training in order to take part in recent competitions. Well done to all the boys involved for effort, good sportsmanship and some good results! Thank you also to Miss Cordiner, Mr Thomson and Mrs Gillen. Netball Our P7 girls took part in a netball tournament last week. They won 2 of their games and played well in all matches. Mrs Provan and Miss Craynor were impressed by their skills, good sportsmanship and attitude. Well done! Entrepreneur Me! Mrs Provan took a group of P7 pupils to participate in an Enterprise event at Hampden Park. The children had a great time and came a very close second in the whole competition! Well done – great effort and behaviour! Thanks to Mrs Provan for organising this event. Shoebox Appeal Nursery children, staff and parents filled and packed shoeboxes for the Rotary Club’s annual Shoebox Appeal. Thank you to everyone who donated money or gifts for this worthwhile cause, and Mrs. McLeary for co-ordinating our contributions. St. Andrew’s Day On Monday 30th November, we celebrated St. Andrew’s Day with every class performing a Scottish song or poem for the rest of the school. Well done to all who sang, recited, danced, played an instrument etc. It was a very enjoyable event! P5 Benchball Some of our Primary 5 pupils took part in a benchball tournament in St. Kenneth’s School. They played very well, had great fun and behaved well. Miss Cordiner was very pleased with them! “Your Future” We were fortunate to be chosen as a pilot school for a new project called “Your Future”. All of our Primary 6 and Primary 7 pupils took part in this event. The children learned more about the skills needed for life and for work. The morning went very well and all staff involved complimented the children for their effort, enthusiasm and manners! Malawi links We continue to look for ways to develop our links with our partner school in Malawi. This month, the Malawi Committee are organising a raffle to raise funds. Thank you to everyone who has donated prizes for this. We will be selling raffle tickets at the front door of the school every day at 3pm from Monday 7th December until Friday 18th December. We will also sell tickets before each of our concert performances on Wednesday 16th December. Parent Circle and Family Night Our recent Family Night organised by the Parent Circle was a great success! Children enjoyed watching, and joining in, with Animal Man and his friends! Parents who came along heard more about the Parent Circle and suggested ideas for involving more parents. Our Parent Circle now has many more members, some of whom have agreed to take on specific roles. Thank you to all parents who helped make the night a real success, and thank you also to Mr. Alan Baxter and Mrs Margaret Solomon for all their work through the Parent Council over the last few years. Christmas Concert for P1-P7 pupils Afternoon (starting at 1.30pm) and evening (starting at 7.00pm) performances Information The Health Committee have asked for £1 for the pantomime and £1 for wearing pyjamas over uniforms! All classes will perform an item for our Christmas Concert! Tickets priced £2 for adults and £1 for children will be available (limited to two per family due to fire regulations) from Monday 7th December. Parent volunteers to help would be most appreciated! Christmas Lunch available Lunch will cost £1.80 for children who do not receive a ticket. There will be no soup or sandwiches available on this day. P4 and P5 pupils having Christmas parties P 2 and P2\3 going to Kincaid House to sing Christmas songs Christmas parties will take place for Nursery, P2, P2\3, P3 and P6 pupils Nursery Nativity at 10.45am P1 party in the afternoon Christmas Service in the school P7 party in the afternoon School and nursery close at 2.30pm Nursery party – morning School classes - afternoon Parents are welcome to join us for this performance and to enjoy tea\coffee afterwards Parents are welcome to join us for this special service We re-open on Wednesday 6th January 2010 at 9am!
