December newsletter
Dear parents,
I would like to tell you about some of our exciting events last month and also,
give you some dates for your diaries for this busy time of year!
Athletics team
Our athletics events have been very popular this month. Again, staff have
commented positively on behaviour, effort and attitude of all children involved.
Well done! Thank you to Mrs. Bowes for organising this activity.
Parents’ Night
We were delighted to see so many parents. It is really important that we work
together to ensure that all of our pupils are achieving their best! Thank you to
everyone who came along, especially those who provided tea, coffee, baking etc.
All the comments on the noticeboard were appreciated greatly!
P7 Football
Miss Cordiner and Mr Thomson have been encouraging our P6 and P7 boys to
participate in football training in order to take part in recent competitions.
Well done to all the boys involved for effort, good sportsmanship and some good
results! Thank you also to Miss Cordiner, Mr Thomson and Mrs Gillen.
Netball
Our P7 girls took part in a netball tournament last week. They won 2 of their
games and played well in all matches. Mrs Provan and Miss Craynor were
impressed by their skills, good sportsmanship and attitude. Well done!
Entrepreneur Me!
Mrs Provan took a group of P7 pupils to participate in an Enterprise event at
Hampden Park. The children had a great time and came a very close second in
the whole competition!
Well done – great effort and behaviour! Thanks to Mrs Provan for organising
this event.
Shoebox Appeal
Nursery children, staff and parents filled and packed shoeboxes for the Rotary
Club’s annual Shoebox Appeal. Thank you to everyone who donated money or
gifts for this worthwhile cause, and Mrs. McLeary for co-ordinating our
contributions.
St. Andrew’s Day
On Monday 30th November, we celebrated St. Andrew’s Day with every class
performing a Scottish song or poem for the rest of the school. Well done to all
who sang, recited, danced, played an instrument etc. It was a very enjoyable
event!
P5 Benchball
Some of our Primary 5 pupils took part in a benchball tournament in St.
Kenneth’s School. They played very well, had great fun and behaved well. Miss
Cordiner was very pleased with them!
“Your Future”
We were fortunate to be chosen as a pilot school for a new project called “Your
Future”. All of our Primary 6 and Primary 7 pupils took part in this event. The
children learned more about the skills needed for life and for work. The
morning went very well and all staff involved complimented the children for
their effort, enthusiasm and manners!
Malawi links
We continue to look for ways to develop our links with our partner school in
Malawi. This month, the Malawi Committee are organising a raffle to raise
funds. Thank you to everyone who has donated prizes for this. We will be
selling raffle tickets at the front door of the school every day at 3pm from
Monday 7th December until Friday 18th December. We will also sell tickets
before each of our concert performances on Wednesday 16th December.
Parent Circle and Family Night
Our recent Family Night organised by the Parent Circle was a great success!
Children enjoyed watching, and joining in, with Animal Man and his friends!
Parents who came along heard more about the Parent Circle and suggested ideas
for involving more parents. Our Parent Circle now has many more members,
some of whom have agreed to take on specific roles. Thank you to all parents
who helped make the night a real success, and thank you also to Mr. Alan Baxter
and Mrs Margaret Solomon for all their work through the Parent Council over
the last few years.
Our new Parent Circle includes:
Mrs Louise Clark – Chairperson
Mr Kevin Jamieson – Vice Chairperson
Mrs Lucinda Jones – Secretary
Mrs Wilma Ramage - Treasurer
