Preparation activities- Checklist for Cities
1. Training of all municipal workers- Permanent & Contractual
2. Meeting and awareness programs with all stakeholders of the city
3. All collection vehicles to be painted (Blue & Green) and partitioned
4. Ensuring that all public bins are also changed to Blue & Green
5. Adequate procurement and distribution of bins to all households
6. Intensive communication campaign
7. Showcasing new Videos made by MoUD on local TV channels and cinema halls
8. Encouraging citizens to take pledge to segregate on MyGov
9. Uploading photographs of preparation activities on SBM Urban portal
Training of all municipal employees- Permanent & Contractual
1. Several e-learning modules
for municipal employees,
including best practices
followed in segregation
have been uploaded by
MoUD. The ministry has
also released an SOP on
best practices to the cities.
2. ULBs can also organize
sessions for employees
and demonstrate
segregation & collection of
household waste.
3. Site Visit
Awareness programs with all stakeholders of the city
1. Consultation workshops
should be organized for all
stakeholders of the city
like, students, RWAs,
SHGs, bulk waste
generators, market
associations etc.
2. Rag pickers should also be
sensitized through
awareness campaigns and
consultation programs.

1. All the collection vehicles
should be painted Blue
and Green.
2. The ULBs should either
purchase segregated auto
tippers or retrofit their
existing vehicles, as it is
necessary to ensure that
the segregated waste is
transported in a
segregated manner.
Ensuring that all public bins are also changed to Blue & Green
1. It is important for
cities to ensure
that all public bins
in the city are also
as per the two bin
system (Blue &
Green).
Adequate procurement and distribution of bins to all households
1. ULBs should procure and
distribute two dustbins per
household. The dustbins
should be distributed
before 5th June as they are
the change agents of this
campaign.
2. The dustbins can be
procured locally or
through GeM as deemed
fit by the ULB and in
adherence with the
Procurement policies.
Intensive communication campaign
1. MoUD has created print
and video advertisements
for promoting segregation
at source. These can be
downloaded from the
mission’s portal.
2. ULBs are advised to put
these advertisements on
hoardings, state owned
transport etc. so that it
brings in a large scale
behavior change among
the citizens.
Showcasing new Videos made by MoUD on local TV channels and
cinema halls
1. MoUD has created print
and video advertisements
for promoting segregation
at source showcasing
famous personalities.
These can be downloaded
from the mission’s portal.
2. ULBs are advised to
showcase these
advertisements on local
channels as per DAVP
approved rates. These
advertisements can also
be played in movie halls
during breaks.
Encouraging citizens to take pledge to segregate on MyGov
1. For mass participation
in the initiative, ULBs
are advised to
encourage citizens to
take pledge to
segregate on MyGov.
Uploading photographs of preparation activities on SBM Urban
portal
1. Cities are advised to
upload photographs of
their daily/ weekly
progress so that the other
cities can be motivated
follow in the initiative of
source segregation.
