Role Specification Job Title: Volunteer Coordinator with special responsibility for Community Volunteering Responsible to: Volunteers Manager Location: Birmingham Job Purpose To coordinate the community volunteer programme within Acorns care services. Coordinating the volunteers within the community environment providing care based support. Assist in facilitating volunteering projects in care; to provide support to the volunteer’s manager. Working with all stakeholders to identify needs and new initiatives and maintaining effective volunteer support to ensure the identified needs are met. Actively promote volunteering. Service Delivery Ensure that all aspects of the Role Specification are met and that the service provided is culturally sensitive and appropriate for all sections of the communities we serve. Primary Tasks The post-holder will: i) Coordinate the recruitment and placement of community based volunteers (including appropriate identity checks and references). ii) Identify with Volunteer’s Manager and Community Team Managers areas that require recruitment of volunteers with specific skills. iii) Contribute to achieving Acorns Strategic Plan through the involvement of volunteers within the community. iv) Develop plans to meet strategic goals as set out in Acorns Children’s Hospice strategy. v) Control budget expenditure for community volunteering activities and community volunteer expenses under the supervision of the line manager. vi) Participate in the development of a volunteering policy and develop structures, systems and procedures to support community volunteering. vii) Lead, support and motivate community volunteers viii) Plan, organise, and monitor community volunteering activities, maintain volunteer records and monitor impact of community volunteer involvement ix) Promote volunteering to potential and actual volunteers. x) Identify new areas for volunteer involvement. xi) Support the development of volunteers’ knowledge, skills and competence. Identified training to be provided (including induction). xii) Provide individual and group support and supervision to community volunteers xiii) Organise events involving volunteers to show appreciation for their support. xiv) Participate in meetings involving volunteers xv) Assist in the audit and evaluation of community volunteer programmes xvi) Develop and promote productive working relationships with colleagues and other stakeholders. xvii) Assist in facilitating corporate volunteering projects in care promoting positive relationships. xviii) Ensure all volunteer involvement is provided sensitively, bearing in mind the needs of the families we serve. xix) Ensure safe working for all volunteers and volunteer projects. Maintain Acorns health & safety and fire regulations. xx) Ensure that all aspects of volunteer involvement reflect Acorns Children’s Hospice Trust policies, procedures and philosophy, standard diversity and audit and evaluation of service. xxi) Ensure that any safeguarding concerns are acted upon in line with both Acorns policy and statutory guidance. xxii) Commit to professional development opportunities for ourselves and others xxiii) Participate in regular supervision with line manager and participate in an Individual Performance Review. xxiv) Maintain an awareness of the diverse community of the West Midlands, and will help ensure that our service delivery is appropriate to meet those diverse needs. xxv) Carry out any reasonable duty as requested by the line manager. Experience of organising events, presentations or meetings with a variety of audiences. Experience of successfully recruiting and managing people and building networks, ideally volunteers. Experience of delivering training. Experience of working with a variety of computer systems, Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and databases. Experience of working to and achieving set objectives, targets, deadlines and individual goals. Up to date knowledge of safeguarding. Ability to relate to and communicate with a wide range of audiences Ability to juggle a varied and busy workload Exceptional attention to detail and a working style that is organised, methodical and logical. Ability to work to tight timeframes and prioritise accordingly. Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and on own initiative Ability to show tact and discretion when dealing with sensitive and confidential information. Good listening skills. TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT POSITION: Volunteer Co-Ordinator REPORTING TO: Volunteer Manager LOCATION: Birmingham SALARY: £23,694 per annum + allowances NOTICE: 4 weeks HOURS: 37.5 hours per week.
