WHAT KIDS SAY...

YOUNGSTERS at St John’s School, in
Billericay, are football mad by the looks
of it. We dropped by for a chipper chat
and to pose some questions about books,
careers and life.

Can you tell me about
your favourite book,
Danielle?
“The book I like the
best is Dolphins. I love
dolphins and if I had a
pet dolphin I’d call it
Mermaid after the Little
Mermaid because
she’s my favourite
Disney princess.”
So we are well into
2014 now, what are
you most looking
forward to about this
year?
“I’m most looking
27
forward to my
brother’s birthday
because it will lots of
fun.”
Not your own
birthday?
“Yes, but I am looking
forward to my
brother’s even more.”
And finally, what job
do you think you
might want to do
when you grow up?
“I want to be a nurse
and make people
better. If they are
crying, I will look after
them, but I don’t know
if I will give them
injections.”
What’s your
favourite
book,
Harry?
“My
favourite
book is
Tottenham
FC. It’s
about my
favourite
football
team –
Tottenham!
“I don’t really
have any books
that aren’t about
football.”
We are in your
school’s amazing art
room. Can you tell me
something about art?
“There was a painter
called Van Gogh and
he ripped off part of his
ear!”
‘
When I
get older
I’m going
to be a racing
car driver for
Formula One
So, what are you most looking forward to
for 2014?
“I’m most looking forward to my birthday in
May, because I’m going to go go-karting.
When I get older I’m going to be a racing car
driver for Formula One, like my hero Sebastian
Vettel.”
Do you know what your top speed will be?
“Yes, I’ll go 244mph!”
Dylan Quirk, seven
What’s your favourite book
about Dylan?
“It’s called Soccer Showdowns
(Dylan goes on to talk
passionately about the intricate
details of the book and the
rules of football for three
minutes without drawing
breath).
OK, so which football team is
Madeline James,

good at hockey and
basketball though.”
What’s your favourite
book?
“My favourite book is
Super Duper Dudley.
It’s about a boy who
pretends he can play
the piano, but can’t
and he gets found out,
but it turns out he’s
really good at
skateboarding.”
So what job do you
think you will want to
do when you grow
up?
“I want to be a person
that goes to school to
inject people with the
anti chickenpox!”
Oh dear, have you
ever told a fib like
that?
“No, I can’t play the
piano and I haven’t
told people I can. I’m
the best in the
day and probably earn

So you want to be a
doctor specialising in
vaccinations?
“Yes, but I only want to
do chickenpox
injections.
“I had my injection
and I want to make
sure it’s nice for other
children.”
So what are you most looking
forward to doing in 2014?
“Going to Wales for my baby
sister’s birth. My family are from
Wales and I can speak some
Welsh. If it was at night I would
say ‘Nos da’.”
So if you had to choose
between playing football for
England or Wales one day
what would it be?
“Wales!”
