JOB DESCRIPTION
OIG SPECIAL AGENT
NATURE OF WORK
This position plans, conducts, and coordinates investigations related to fraud,
waste, abuse, corruption, program integrity, and mismanagement. OIG Special
Agents also assist other agencies in the investigation when necessary for
criminal prosecution, or other administrative proceedings resulting from OIG
investigations. Investigations are conducted in accordance with the Commission
for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA) Standards for Florida Offices of
Inspectors General and the Association of Inspectors General (AIG) Quality
Standards for Investigations.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS












Interviews witnesses and persons of interest
Conducts surveillance as necessary
Collects and documents evidence
Reviews and analyzes business documents such as bank records,
invoices, receipts, corporate filings, and financial statements
Reviews government business documents such as small business
certifications, vendor applications, responses to public procurement
solicitations, contracts, and change orders
Attends meetings and other activities, participating and providing
information and oversight in an objective and professional manner
Completes routine administrative duties, including appropriate
documentation of investigative activities and submission of periodic
investigative case plans
Attends and participates in all required training sessions
Prepares written memoranda, correspondence and/or reports on any and
all issues or activities that may be required, including the preparation of
investigative final reports
Testifies at official proceedings regarding investigations and findings
Serves legal documents as needed
Maintains a current working knowledge of County structure and programs
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS
Demonstrated professional expertise in conducting complex investigations.
Observant individual with considerable written and oral communication skills.
Ability to organize and maintain large volumes of documents.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university. At the
discretion of the Inspector General, ten years sworn law enforcement
experience with emphasis in white-collar fraud investigations; ten years
with a federal, state, or local regulatory agency may be substituted for the
educational requirements.
2. Minimum of five years experience in investigations, inspections and
reviews within the following investigative fields: examining financial
records and investigations involving financial institutions; investigations of
white collar frauds, including government business transactions, public
procurement and program integrity frauds; investigations involving fraud,
waste, and abuse of position and whistle-blower cases; inspections and
investigations of contractor, permitting, and professional licensing
schemes; and investigations of public integrity crimes.
3. Excellent computer skills including word processing applications, internet
usage and other public records databases preferred.
4. Professional designations, such as Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE)
preferred.
SALARY
Commensurate with experience. To be determined by the Inspector General.
