1. Business Intelligence - Introduction
Oceanfile includes a series of business intelligence modules to facilitate the analysis and reporting of data
contained in your Oceanfile account.
Each of the business intelligence modules provides specific tools for generating reports and/or charts using
a variety of analysis techniques suited to different objectives and techniques.
This user manual provides an overview of each business intelligence module and their main areas of
application. A detailed manual will shortly be available for each module describing their functionality in
greater depth.

Reports Overview
The reports module is a powerful reporting engine that allows almost any data from Oceanfile to be displayed as text, charts or tables in any layout and
with any look and feel that you require including company logos and other personalised elements.
The reports module is particular suited to generating simple or complex management reports with data drawn from multiple sources with Oceanfile.
Management reports can be designed to meet your in house requirements with any number of sub reports and charts.
Report templates are saved to a report library that provides quick and easy access to load any report format.
The extensive export options allows the report viewed on screen to be exported to over 12 different document formats including Excel, PowerPoint, PDF
and Word.
Data may be filtered to select date ranges, particular vessels, inspections, chapters, inspectors, inspecting companies, officers and management.
The report designer provides a graphical view of the report layout which may be edited by dragging report components or elements such as text boxes and
chart components around the page as required.

Tables Overview
The tables module provides a means to generate lists of data in tabular format with a choice of which columns of data are included.
The tables module is particular suited to situations where you require to generate a list of data from within Oceanfile.
The tables module provides a number of options including whether data is shown in full or truncated to fit within the column width.
The design of the tables templates are saved to a library that provides quick and easy access to load any existing table layout.
Tables may be exported to Excel, PDF and Word.
Data may be filtered to select date ranges, particular vessels, inspections, chapters, inspectors, inspecting companies, officers and management.

Pivots Overview
The pivots module provides the means to create pivot tables of almost any data from Oceanfile.
Pivot tables are particular suited to generating comparative analysis with the data metric or metrics that would wish to view as a comparative displayed as
columns across a table layout.
Pivot table templates are saved to a library that provides quick and easy access to load any existing pivot table design.
Data may be pre-filtered to select date ranges, particular vessels, inspections, chapters, inspectors, inspecting companies, officers and management.
The pivot view allows data to be further filtered directly within the pivot table view.
The pivot module also includes a chart view of the data displayed in the pivot table which is created automatically based on the pivot columns and
aggregate cells that are selected.

Spreadsheets Overview
The spreadsheets module provides the means to edit Excel compatible spreadsheets directly within Oceanfile.
Spreadsheets are particular suited to situations when a bespoke table of data is required with cells calculated or derived from the underlying data.
Spreadsheets are saved to a library that provides quick and easy access to load any existing spreadsheet.
The integral spreadsheet module also supports embedded charts of various types to be created from ranges of data cells within the spreadsheet.

Charts Overview
The charts module provides a means to design a wide variety of different 2D and 3D charts of almost any data from Oceanfile.
The charts module is particular suited to creating visual representations of data which are often more easily understood than text lists, particular when
trend or comparative analysis is required.
The charts module includes a chart wizard that guides you through the process of selecting the type of chart required, the dimensions (X axis) and metrics
(Y axis) that you wish to chart.
Chart templates are saved to a library that provides quick and easy access to load any existing chart design.
Charts may be exported as an Image or PDF file.
Chart data may be filtered to select date ranges, particular vessels, inspections, chapters, inspectors, inspecting companies, officers and management.
