Athletic Commission Parents Code of Conduct

St. Eugene Athletic Commission
Parents’ Code of Conduct
Youth sports provide an opportunity to foster the development of young athletes, on many levels: physically, mentally, socially and emotionally. The Catholic School of St. Eugene and the Catholic Grade
Schools Athletic Association strive to instill a sense of self-esteem, responsibility, confidence, dignity and
self discipline in young athletes, through an emphasis on fair play, teamwork, leadership and respect.
All participants in St. Eugene athletic activities — players, coaches, parents and fans — are expected to
exemplify good sportsmanship at every practice and game. The goal of this Code of Conduct is to remind
parents that their behavior should never detract from our children’s enjoyment of the sport or undermine
the values of our Christian community.
Code of Conduct
As the parent of a St. Eugene athlete, I agree to promote these goals by adhering to the following Code of
Conduct:
1. I will abide by the rules of the CGSAA and the St. Eugene Athletic Commission.
2. I will prioritize the ideals of character and Christianity, consistent with a Catholic School education,
over winning or my own personal satisfactions.
3. I will support my child’s coach, and will respect all coaching decisions about practice format, assignment of positions and allocation of playing time.
4. I will adhere to the league's expectations for game-day behavior. I will not make derogatory comments
to or about players, coaches, fans or officials.
5. I will model good sportsmanship and establish a Christian tone in my interactions with players, coaches
and parents, from our school and all other schools. I will embody the belief that both teammates and opponents are entitled to be treated with respect and dignity.
6. I will respect the judgment of officials and abide by the rules of the event. I will not indulge in conduct
that will incite players or spectators against the officials. I understand that public criticism of officials or
physical contact with officials is unethical and may result in disciplinary action.
7. I understand that should my behavior violate any aspect of this code of conduct, I will be subject to disciplinary action as determined by league officials. Should that occur, I agree to abide by the decision of
the sport coordinator and the Athletic Commission.
8. I understand that refusal to sign this Code of Conduct will make me ineligible to attend sporting events
and practices.
Grievance Resolution Procedure
Coaches, parents, officials and participants agree to address any concerns that arise during the season
through personal discussions between the parties. Problems that cannot be resolved in this manner should
be brought to the attention of the sport coordinator, who will work with the parties to find some resolution. If that cannot be accomplished to everyone’s satisfaction, then the matter may be referred, in writing,
to the Athletic Director. The matter will be discussed at the next scheduled Athletic Commission meeting,
and all involved parties may be present if they wish. The decision of the St. Eugene Athletic Commission
will then be binding on all parties.
I have read the St. Eugene Parent Code of Conduct and I agree to adhere to it in my participation in all St.
Eugene Athletic activities.
