Welcome to NEWGATE LODGE CARE HOME
Newgate Lodge is situated in the market town of Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. The Home
has good bus, rail and road links to the M1. It is close to the town centre, the Four
Seasons shopping centre, and all local amenities / facilities for service users and their
families. A short journey takes us to the picturesque settings of Newstead Abbey,
Hardwick Hall and Sherwood Forest.
Newgate Lodge is registered to provide quality residential care and Dementia care
(without nursing) for 55 older persons. We are rated by Notts Social Services as being a
‘Band 5’ residential care home. “The Meadows” is a dedicated unit on the first floor
providing quality person centred care for those experiencing the many varied facets of
dementia. We offer permanent stay, or short term care and regular respite care. Our
Home offers 55 single en-suite rooms, many with shower facilities. We have adjoining
rooms for married couples / or partners/ siblings. Two rooms on the ground floor have
patio access to the secluded, safe and secure garden area. All rooms are individually
decorated to the personal choices of our service users, all are pleasantly and comfortably
furnished, offering a homely environment thus ensuring and respecting individual
preferences. The assisted bathrooms are equipped with mechanical / powered ( Arjo and
Parker )Baths, with totally separate showering facilities (wet rooms).
All service users are encouraged and assisted to spend time in the attractive secure garden
at the rear of the Home. Our sensory / tactile garden is being revamped.
We have attained accreditation to provide temporary / respite care for persons aged
65yrs and over within the local Mental Health Intermediate Care ‘Step-Up’ bed scheme.
Care Planning
Any person interested in coming to live at Newgate Lodge is encouraged to visit the
Home, to join us for a day and spend time with other service users. You will have the
opportunity to partake of lunch and tea, experience our surroundings and person centred
activities, a happy family atmosphere and see at first hand our delivery of quality person
centred care. If you are unable to visit us we are able to visit you in your own home, or if
you are currently in Hospital we will visit you to have a chat about your needs and give
you information about Newgate Lodge. This Home takes great pride in delivering high
quality of care, respecting dignity and equality of choices, encouraging maintenance of
ability and independence in a safe environment.
All care plans are person centred pertaining to the individual, recognising abilities,
encouraging and assisting independence, thus enabling the service user to remain in
control of their daily life. We invite families / partners and representatives to be actively
involved in the care planning process and reviews. Care plans are actively reviewed and
updated monthly with involvement from the service user and / or their family, or
representative.
Social Activities
We offer individual or group participation in a variety of settings as social, or therapeutic
activities. Our full time Activities Co-ordinator aims to support every service user to
maintain their existing hobbies and interests and / or develop new skills / interests,
Activities range from arts and crafts, home baking to knitting and music etc. We arrange a
variety of our outings, such as to the theatre, garden centres, the coast, shopping trips,
boat trips, dining out etc. Outings are arranged for those who wish to go out and
participation and accompaniment of relatives is strongly encouraged. We have Themed
evenings, regular visiting entertainers, monthly multi-faith services, gentle chair based
exercises etc., and this is reflected by a comment made by one of our service users “there
is always something going on in Newgate Lodge”.
Visitors
Family and friends are encouraged to visit any day usually without notice, however we do
respectfully request if possible that visits are not made during mealtimes as many of our
service users experience some difficulty in taking their diet independently. Mealtimes are
also a social gathering for our service users. If you wish to join your relative at lunch or tea
you are most welcome to do so as we have a private dining area where you can enjoy your
meal and the company of your family / friends in comfort. Our Activities Co-Ordinator
assists service users to keep in touch by phone, internet, e-mail, letters and photographs.
Newgate Lodge encourages active involvement from service user’s families. Constructive
criticism and suggestions are more than welcome open communication enhances bilateral
relationships.
Nutrition
Our Catering Manager actively consults services users and their families about menu
choices and food preferences. We cater for all dietary needs with locally sourced foods,
freshly prepared, fully nutritionally balanced, home cooked on site prepared by our skilled
catering team. Each dining area has a ‘menu board’ displaying daily menu choices. In the
event of a service experiencing swallowing difficulties we request referral to the Speech
and Language Therapy Team based at Kings Mill Hospital who visit service users to assess
their safety in swallowing and giving advice for continued nutrition and hydration.

Owner
Dr. Jas Lidder has extensive experience in the delivery of care to the older persons.
Recently retired from the NHS having held the position of Consultant Psychiatrist, Mental
Health Services for Older People, at Kings Mill Hospital, Mansfield. He has competently
managed Care & Nursing Homes for many years taking an active interest in the daily
running of his Homes (our sister Home being Lowmoor Care Home). Dr. Lidder oversees
and ensures his Homes are well maintained with attractive homely ambiences. He
monitors, through regular internal audits, relating specifically to the delivery of quality
care to all service users, staff training and development is taken very seriously, to ensure
they remain professional, well trained, confident, compassionate and totally efficient.
Management
Mrs Janet Briddon – our full time Manager at Newgate Lodge, has extensive experience in
managing homes for the older person. Having spent many years with the Local Authority
before joining the private sector she aims to ensure the highest standard of care is
delivered to all service users in a homely / safe and well-presented care environment.
Spending time with service users in ascertaining their individual care needs ensures
continuity of care specific to their needs. The Manager has an ‘open door’ policy giving
access to service users, their families, along with staff members, thus giving the
opportunity for receipt of compliments, open discussion on any issue, with any concerns
aired and responded to appropriately and swiftly.
We have two Deputy Managers taking similar responsibilities and maintaining best
practice always striving to achieve high standards in the Home. Our administrator is
totally committed, very professional and very approachable.
Our staff team
The staff team at this Home have been selected for their personality, compassion and
above all understanding in caring for the older persons. All staff receive very
comprehensive training, commensurate to the skills required by CQC. High numbers of
staff ensure high standards of continuity of care.
Many members of our staff team are designated ‘Dignity Champions.’
Our catering, housekeeping and laundry teams provide Newgate Lodge with essential
daily support, important in facilitating and maintain our high standards throughout the
Home.
Supervision & Training
To ensure continued development of our staff we invest in regular training to update their
skills and knowledge base. Training commences with new starters completing an
Induction process. All staff attend mandatory courses which are revalidated annually.
Specialist training in specific areas of care practice is encouraged and staff attend local
and national forums, with the aim of positively enriching and enhancing the lives of our
service users. Staff receive regular supervision as per CQC recommendations with annual
appraisals from the Registered Manager who in turn receives supervision from the
Director, Dr. Jas Lidder.
Fees
Newgate Lodge welcomes service users who are funded by the Local Authority (Social
Services) – out of county referrals and those who are self- funded.
Weekly fees are calculated depending upon the levels of care each service user requires in
order to facilitate / enrich their daily living. Every service user receives a ‘Service User
Guide’ which details the range of services and individual care we provide. We have regular
visits from an optician, chiropodist, and weekly visits from our hairdresser who uses our in
house hairdressing salon. All these services are accessible with cost being met by the
service user.
