Millport 1st – 7th August 2015 Sat – Fri £205 / £175 Scottish Island Seaside Wildlife On the eastern shore of the Isle of Cumbrae Millport has a great island location with sheltered coastlines to explore and is just an 8 minute ferry ride from the mainland. Activities include rocky shore rambles, team games, beach art and orienteering. Boat trip Step aboard the RV Actinia for a trip around the Eileans, spotting wildlife such as seals, sea birds and perhaps a porpoise. Sun 2nd Evening What wanders at night? We will observe a variety of nocturnal life such as bats, look for signs of otters, and set humane small mammal traps and a light trap around the centre grounds. Open mammal homes Mon 3rd OPAL Bugs Count Take part in a wildlife survey to find out about the creepy crawlies around our grounds Conservation Using your new found invertebrate knowledge, contribute to biodiversity in Millport grounds. Build a bird box, bat box and add to our bug hotel, Evening Tues 4th Star Gazing Enjoy a guided tour of the night sky Rock pool ramble, crabbing and beach art We will head out to the rocky shore for low tide to explore the rock pools, cracks and crevices of the shore near Kames Bay. We will then head to the pier to tempt some crabs with bait. (low tide 09.24 0.0m) Evening Willow lanterns Using natural materials we will create a lantern to light our campfire Aquarium Visit the Robertson Museum and Aquarium to look at all the wonderful creatures Weds under the Clyde 5th Family free afternoon to explore the locality Evening Thurs 6th Beach exploration We will head to the beach to explore the strandline, create art, search for worms and play games. Evening Fri 7th Family free evening Campfire Sing a song, share a story, Depart after breakfast About the tutor Chloe Denerley is one of our FSC Scotland tutors, and so she spends much of her time taking young people out to explore the landscapes of Scotland. She runs courses for all ages both in the highlands from our base near Pitlochry and from Millport on the Island of Cumbrae.
