PURE MICHIGAN BUSINESS CONNECT - PROGRAM OVERVIEW Pure Michigan Business Connect (PMBC) is a publicprivate initiative developed by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) that introduces Michigan companies to opportunities that help them grow. By participating in the program, companies receive: business assistance at little to no cost; access to a new business-to-business (B2B) network; and opportunities to find new customers while also leveraging procurement resources to increase their supply chain. PROCUREMENT RESOURCES A major goal of the PMBC initiative is growing procurement dollars sourced within the State of Michigan. In support of this effort the following tools are available: 1. Supplier summits connecting Michigan suppliers with real time needs from both in and outside of Michigan. Organizations such as Ford, Chrysler, Boeing General Dynamics, Blue Cross Blue Shield, American Axle, Borg Warner, Johnson Controls, and many others continue to partner with PMBC to buy more in Michigan via these summits. 2. One-off procurement searches that leverage MEDC partner organizations to identify new potential suppliers. These partners include The Small Business Association of Michigan, the Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center, the Michigan Manufacturers Association, the Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council, the Detroit Regional Chamber and other local economic devel- opment organizations. 3. The PMBC B2B network links Michigan companies with private sector procurement opportunities available from other Michigan companies. Michigan businesses are encouraged to learn more about the B2B site and register at no cost at puremichiganb2b.com. DTE Energy, Consumers Energy, Schuler AG, Michigan State University, Moran Iron Works and others have made major commitments to increase their pro- curement spending within Michigan. The B2B network is one of the key enablers in connecting these commitments to the Michigan supply chain The PMBC initiative and partners work with the Michigan supply base to prepare and optimize their capacity to connect with these new business opportunities and meet the demands of companies embracing a “Buy Michigan” philosophy. One job is created for every $200,000 of increased Michigan procurement spend. PROFESSIONAL BUSINESS SERVICES Michigan business professionals are supporting PMBC by offering a variety of services to entrepreneurs and established businesses including legal, accounting, con- sulting, business education, web based services and other professional services. In partnership with the Small Business & Technology Development Center, the program assists Michigan businesses by connecting them to participating partners who are giving back to Michigan by providing these pro bono or reduced rate professional services.
