Volunteer Opportunities
1. Day Camp Volunteers:
Day Camp runs through July and August for children ages 6-11. Employees
plan the activities for each day but they appreciate any help they can get when it
comes to presenters or helpers in general. If you are interested in volunteering for
day camp please call the office at 519-762-3072 to get the specific dates and
possible activities that may need your help. Volunteering with day camp looks
excellent on resumes – especially for those interested in working with children for
their future careers.
2. Sunday Summer Tea Volunteers:
Every Sunday in July and August we run a tea party here at the museum. We
serve tea and special treats to visitors in the parlour of the museum. Volunteers are
needed to help serve the visitors tea and give tours during that time. Summer teas
only run from 1-4pm every Sunday in July and August – therefore if you can only
commit to a short period of time, Summer Teas are an excellent choice!
3. Homestead Days Volunteers:
For the second year in a row we have set up the barn here on the grounds as
an antique agricultural exhibit. We open the barn for tours and visitors every
Tuesday through Friday throughout July and August. Volunteers are needed to help
give tours of the bottom and top level of the barn throughout the summer.
Volunteers will be trained on how to give the barn tour and descriptions of all the
items on display. If you are interested in farming and its origins, this is the volunteer
opportunity for you!
4. The Heritage Farm Show:
The Heritage Farm Show is held on the grounds every year in mid
September. Dates for September 2014 are the 13th and 14th. During the weekend we
have a variety of agricultural demonstrations, booths and artefacts to see.
Volunteers are needed to give tours of the museum and the barn during the event.
We are also looking for anyone who has a heritage skill they would like to
demonstrate during the event. Exhibitors for antique tractors, cars or trucks are
more than welcome and we are also interested in expanding our vendors for the
event. If you are interested in the Heritage Farm Show and would like more
information please visit our Farm Show link on our website or call the office at 519762-3072!
5. The Harvest Party:
The Harvest Party takes place in October here at the museum. This event is
somewhat new and we are still working out most of the details. We would like to
have volunteers who are interested in giving “spooky” tours of the house, teaching
crafts to children or helping to carve pumpkins or lead games set up on the grounds.
More details will be posted closer to the event but if you are interested in learning
more please feel free to call the office at 519-762-3072.
6. The Christmas Dinner:
Here at the museum we host a Christmas Dinner served in the dinning room
of the museum in December. Volunteers are needs to help cook and serve the meal
or give visitors tours of the house. A potluck dinner is to follow the Christmas
Dinner to provide all volunteers with a thank you for helping with the event. More
details about the Christmas Dinner will be posted on the website closer to the event.
If you are interested in helping with the Christmas Dinner or interested in
purchasing tickets – please call the office at 519-762-3072.
7. Gardeners:
We have a variety of gardens growing on the grounds here at the museum.
Every April we host a spring cleanup - which focuses heavily on getting the grounds
ready for opening day. In May/June we get together to plant a variety of heritage
plants that would have been used during the time period. Throughout the summer
volunteers are needed to help maintain and upkeep the gardens as they grow and
also to help harvest what we can in late summer/early fall.
8. Carpenters/General Labourers:
We are always in need of a “handyperson” here at the museum. Things are
constantly in need of fixing. If you are interested in helping to maintain our various
outbuildings, help fix up what we have, or help build us new – please call the office
at 519-762-3072.
9. Tour Guides/Historical Interpreters:
Tour guides are one of the most popular jobs here at the museum. Giving
tours of the museum is a great way to become comfortable with public speaking or a
fun way to learn new things. Volunteers are needed for tour guides throughout the
entire operating season. Anyone interested will be given a booklet including all the
information regarding the house and grounds. If you are interested in becoming a
tour guide please see the volunteer application link on the website. If you have any
questions or concerns please feel free to call the office at 519-762-3072.
