HEALTH CAREER MODEL
• Model was created in the 1980’s
• Developed in North West of England by Brian
Hodges
• Conceptual framework that is person-centered
and situation based (Doyle & Jones, 2013)
• Patients are people with lives, beliefs, and
relationships that extend beyond the diagnosis
that is given((Doyle & Jones, 2013)
HEALTH CAREER MODEL
• Brian Hodges created the model
with four purposes in mind
1. To produce a curriculum development tool
2. Help assure holistic care
3. Support reflective practice
• When creating the model he asked
himself these questions:
1. Who are the recipients of care?
2. What types of activities and tasks do nurses
carry out?
4. Reduce the theory-practice gap
(Doyle & Jones, 2013)
(Doyle & Jones, 2013)
This model has not been
prominent since its
beginning, however, the
21st century is bringing a
new outlook!
