LETTERS OF PETER COLLINSON.

Hort us Upsaliensis has S i b e r i a n Cytisuses, but I
cannot distinguish either of these three.
Before I leave this genus, I must observe that
Linnaeus's character of t h e c u p should be altered
thus — Perianthium, & c . ore b i l a b i a t e ;
superiore
integro vel emarginato, inferiori inciso.
I say this
from observing several with the upper l i p entire,
sometimes obtuse, and the under lip is often, in the
Laburnum, & c bifid or trifid.
Colutea foliolis ovato-lanceolatis obtusis e m a r g i natis, alis v i x c a l y c e longioribus, squamulis (ad
basin calycis) minutissimis.
E t h i o p i a n Colutea.
T h e alae are j u s t t h e length
of the claws of t h e carina, w h i c h last is longer than
the v e x i l l u m * .
Colutea foliolis obverse cordatis, calycibus nudis,
alis carina brevioribus.
African and Oriental Colutea •jf.
Colutea foliolis ellipticis apice obtusis, c a l y c i b u s
s q u a m u l a duplici auctis, alis carina longioribus.
T h i s is D r . P o c o c k ' s Colutea, the flowers larger
than t h e bladder senna, of a fine y e l l o w .
T h e vex
illum has some deep streaks of red on t h e outside ;
and there is a small circular red line near t h e alae. I
never saw it above four feet high J .
Colutea foliolis obverse ovatis apice obtusis seta
terminatis, c a l y c i b u s squamula duplici auctis,
alis carina brevioribus.
