Homework - Baulkham Hills High School

Homework
1. Attend school events, such as parent-teacher night, P&C
gatherings. Ask about homework and how you should
be involved.
1. Set up a homework-friendly area. Ensure it is well lit
and has supplies - paper, pencils, glue, scissors.
3. Schedule study time and homework time. Some students
work best after a snack and some play time, others may
prefer to wait until after dinner.
4. Help them make a plan. Assist in breaking the work up
into manageable chunks. Schedule a mini break every hour.
5. Keep distractions to a
minimum. (Occasionally,
though, a phone call to a
classmate about an
assignment can be helpful)
6. Let the students do their
own work. Let them think for
themselves and make their
own decisions. Let them do
the learning.
7. Be a motivator and a
monitor. Ask about
assignments, quizzes and
tests. Give encouragement,
check completed homework,
and make yourself available
for questions and concerns.
8. Set a good example. Do
they see you doing work,
household running activities,
reading?
9. Praise their work and efforts. Post work on the
refrigerator. Ring a family member. Mention academic
achievements to relatives.
10. If there are continuing problems with homework. Get
help. Talk to their teacher, check out classroom position,
glasses, etc.
