Teachers and other external agencies and organisations are able to order this and other resources from the YEAH website: http://redaware.myshopify.com/collections/all STI Matching Card Game- instructions Duration: 20 minutes The scope and discussion of this game is looking at the 6 major STIs. Young people will gain a greater understanding about each STI, seen in light of there: transmission symptoms, treatment and a relevant fact about each in an Australian context. The following is an instruction guide to conducting the STI Matching Card game. Although the logic of this game will does not vary often, the steps involved in conducting the game may be modified. It is recommended that this game is played after the young people/ students have had a introduction session on the different STI’s. Introduction: “Today we’re going to be playing a matching card game about sexually transmitted infections, or STIs! You’ll notice we have laid out 6 red cards with one of the STIs named on them. The other bunch of cards we have, describe a different fact specific to that STI- transmission, symptoms, treatment and a relevant fact about each in an Australian context.” *If this game has not been preceded by an introduction session to STIs, it is important that you have a short discussion covering information about the STI’s beforehand. Alternatively, you can use this game as a starting point to follow on with a comprehensive discussion about STIs. How to conduct the game: - Place the six red cards along the ground. - Ask the students/young people to stand in around the cards, leaving room for the other cards to be placed underneath. - Shuffle the remaining cards and hand them out. - Explain that each red card should have cards placed below it; blue, purple, yellow and green. You can choose 4 cards at random and place it under a red card to demonstrate how the game should look like when completed. - Once the students/young people have attempted to place the cards under the corresponding STI, go through the cheetsheet and make any corrections. It is important that you take the opportunity to discuss the STI wherever a correction is corrected, i.e. further facts about the STI, debunk any myths or stigma etc.
