Improvements in Version 1.3
Support for Enwatch Units
Enwatch is a distributed network system providing 16 channels of analog inputs together with 4 trigger
channels. The unit includes signal conditioning and analog to digital conversion. It allows you to connect 16
two-wire ICP or other sensors into your EMONITOR Odyssey Online system. Each Enwatch unit is a
microprocessor-based system, complete with network controller that carries out data acquisition tasks as
directed by an EMONITOR Odyssey unload station.
New Enlive Live Mode Viewing Software
The Enlive application is the software component of the Enwatch online surveillance system. The Enlive
application allows you to observe data from an Enwatch unit in live mode. In live mode, data from any
transducer attached to an Enwatch unit is directly uploaded to a workstation running the Enlive software,
processed, and displayed continuously. This data can include trend data, spectrum, or time waveform.
New PlantLink Software
PlantLink is a standalone application that links with any single user or networked EMONITOR Odyssey
database, and displays data from any portable, online, oil, or process data instrument or system. Plantlink
gives plant managers, operators, and maintenance professionals a graphical representation of machine
health. By combining digital images of your plant or machines with the most up-to-date information from
your EMONITOR Odyssey database, Plantlink provides plant status information at a glance.
Storage Specifications Enhanced for Online Systems
You can now set up a measurement definition to display a running average for online systems if you select
Keep running average in the Storage Specification dialog box (Storage command on the Setup menu).
This allows you to store an average of the data values, instead of a single data value. The averaging
method uses the estimated number of samples to calculate the running average. The average appears in
the Archive Data pane.
page 1
Support for MS SQL Server Product-Wide
In addition to Oracle, Centura, or Sybase, you can now choose SQL Server as your EMONITOR Odyssey
database server. This database server is available for multi-user networked solutions.
Driver Notes and Improvements in Version 1.3
Please be aware that data collector driver .INI files are no longer overwritten during the install or
update procedure.
SKF Driver Improvements

Fixed problem with SKF instrument driver where serial port buffers were not being
flushed after communication errors. Problem has only shown up on certain models
of computers (Dell OptiPlex).
dataPAC Driver Improvements

Fixed problem with filtered overall readings in dataPAC driver returning much larger values than what
was really there.

Use this table to determine which INI file is correct for your operating system version and dataPAC
model. Rename the IVX file you want to use to INI, allowing you to use all the features for that version.
All of the listed files are found in your Odyssey program directory.

Year 2000 Compatibility with Windows 95
EMONITOR Odyssey is certified compliant for the year 2000. In certifying a product as Year 2000
Compliant, Entek IRD is using the definition of "Year 2000 conformity" issued by the British Standards
Institution in document (BSI) DISC PD2000-1, except that Entek IRD is certifying that Entek IRD Year 2000
Compliant products will support dates up to and including 12/31/2020, but is not certifying as to later dates.
The BSI criteria imposes no such date restriction. You can find the BSI criteria on the Entek IRD web site at
http://www.entekird.com/.
If you are using Windows 95, you must correctly set your Regional Settings in your Control Panel in
order to display the correct dates in EMONITOR Odyssey.
To do so, choose Control Panel from the Start menu, then double-click Regional Settings. Choose the Date
tab, and select a date setting with a four-digit year. This illustration shows the correct settings. Choose OK
to apply these settings.
Windows 98 and Windows NT use the four-digit year format by default, so no settings should be changed if
you are running on these operating systems.

Omissions and Errata
Odyssey version 1.3 August, 1999. The entries for Enlive, Plantlink, and Enwatch are fixes to the Beta test
software.
EMONITOR Odyssey
Fixed problem with reports using “Previous Peak Amplitude” or “Percent Change” column not
calculating alarm severity condition properly.
Fixed software crash on startup or during printing encountered on Windows 95/98
with some HP printers.
Fixed occasional problem where user interaction with Odyssey online components could
cause either a "Database Timeout" error or a database deadlock.
Fixed problem with program crash with a two-level hierarchy tree
Hardware Setup
Enhanced browse speed in the Location browser. This will be most apparent on large
networked databases.
Fixed the problem behind the error message that appeared when editing the properties for a
6600 monitor. This happened only with MS SQL as the database server.
Fixed the problem that was causing an SQL error message when the time format under the
control Panel, Regional Settings was H:mm:ss (instead of h:mm:ss).
Enlive
Fixed software crash on startup or during printing encountered on Windows 95/98
with some HP printers.
Added channel label support in the Collection dialog box , you can enter a text description for
the channel.
Fixed the problem that occurred when using two network cards in the same computer.
Removed the multi-IP select dialog box. Instead, the software automatically selects the correct
network IP address when there are two cards in the same computer.
Plantlink
Enhanced browse and alarm drawing speeds.
Online Drivers - Enwatch
Improved the calculations when using the Flattop windowing function to increase accuracy
Fixed the problem that occurred when using two network cards in the same computer. The
software automatically selects the correct network IP address when there are two cards in the
same computer.
Online Drivers - V/IMP
IMP driver - Fixed the problem with voltage measurements. Set “Use external temperature” to
off by default, and do not send the “use external temperature” message for non-temperature
points (even if the option is selected in the dialog box in Hardware Setup).
VIMP driver - Fixed a filter problem. The driver selects the next available high pass filter if the
user-defined filter is not in the list for the VIMP.

Updating to EMONITOR Odyssey 1.3 from 1.2
Read this section if you are updating from version 1.2 to 1.3.
IMPORTANT: Back up all databases before performing any update.
The basic steps are:
1.
Run setup.exe on the EMONITOR Odyssey CD.
2.
If you are an Oracle database user, rename 420.ora to 420.sql in the Odyssey/restruct/ directory.
Also, if you are using any Oracle version other than 7.3, you must copy the DLLs from your
Odyssey directory into your Windows/System directory.
3.
Start EMONITOR Odyssey to run the database restructure program.
4.
The update is complete when all these steps are finished.
1
Shut down all Odyssey applications, including
EMONITOR, Scheduler, or Unload Station
Manager.
Insert the EMONITOR Odyssey Installation CDROM disk into the CD-ROM drive of your
computer. Click the Windows Start button, and
then click Run. Locate setup.exe on the CD-ROM
drive, shown in this example as drive D. Choose
OK to run setup.exe.
2
Choose OK to continue at the first dialog box.
3
If you received a new CD activation key, you
ordered something new and need to install it.
Choose Yes if you received a new 16-digit
activation key and go to "Installing New Software
Components."
4
5
Choose No if you just want to do an update and go
to the next step.
The install program copies the needed files.
Choose Finish to complete the installation.
Oracle database users only: If needed, open the script file 420.ora, located in \Program Files\Entek
IRD\Odyssey\Restruct\ by default, and modify the script files to match the tablespace names to your
current database structure.
The tablespace that contains the tables is called ENTEKD. If you need to change the name, do a search
and replace in the script files. The tablespace that contains the indexes is called ENTEKI. Again, do a
search and replace if you need to change the name to match your current database.
Note: These files are also included on the Odyssey installation CD. If you copy the files from the CD, you
must change the attributes from Read-Only so that you can modify the file.
6
Oracle database users only: Rename the 420.ora script file to 420.sql so that the Restructure program
knows to run that script.
page 5
7
Oracle database users only: If you are using any Oracle version other than 7.3, you must
copy the correct version of the files mdord.dll and mdordmt.dll into your system folder.
These files are located in these folders by default:
C:\Program Files\Entek IRD\Odyssey\Oracle72\ or C:\Program Files\Entek
IRD\Odyssey\Oracle80\
8
Copy the two files into your system folder, replacing the version 7.3 files. For Windows 95/98, the folder
is C:\Windows\System. For Windows NT, the folder is C:\Windows\System32.
Start EMONITOR Odyssey by choosing it from the
Start menu. The restructure program automatically
starts. Choose Yes to update your database.
9
Choose Restructure to begin the update process.
10
Make sure you have backed up your database,
then choose OK to continue.
11
Make sure that no users are still attached to the
database, then choose OK to continue.
12
When the process is finished, choose Close.
The update should be complete.
page 6
Installing New Software Components
If you are installing a new Enwatch unit, with EMONITOR Odyssey Online, it will automatically be selected.
Simply follow the instructions on screen to install your Enwatch unit.
If you are installing a new Enwatch unit with PlantLink, you must select it. Follow the instructions on screen
until you come to this dialog box.
Choose PlantLink, then choose Change.
Select the Enlive (Enwatch only) selection by putting a checkmark in the box, then choose Continue.
Go through the rest of the installation, and restart the computer when asked.

Problem Reporting
With this release of Odyssey some steps have been taken to facilitate more timely Support response. There
are two things you can do to help us solve any problems you encounter. The first is to note any information
that occurs in the unlikely event of Odyssey system halt, described below under “Reporting error
messages”. The second is to copy the form on the next page. Please fill out this form, and either have it
with you when you call Entek IRD Customer Support, or fax it to Entek IRD Customer Support.
Reporting error messages
Should you encounter a problem, the information below should be reported to your Entek IRD Support
contact. By providing it to Support Engineering, this information will facilitate more accurate and timely fixes
to the problem.
For any system we will need to know the version of the software. Note that since Windows NT and
Windows 95 machines behave slightly differently you will see one of the following depending on
your Operating system.

For WinNT:
If a system halt occurs, a dialog will pop up with the application name at the top, usually followed by the
words Application Error. In the dialog you will see a message similar to the following:
The instruction at “0x00401171” referenced memory at “0x00000000”. The memory could not be
“written”.

For Win95:
If a system halt occurs, a dialog will pop up with the application name at the top. The message in the
dialog will state that the program has performed and illegal action and will be shut down. There will be a
Details button in the dialog. Choose Details and you will see a message similar to the one below appear
in the message box:
EPM caused an invalid page fault in module EPM.EXE at 0137:00401171
Please write down or copy the entire error message in the dialog, as well as any other information
concerning what you were doing at the time of the crash.
