Domenic Dorisio Technology & Assessment of HES 12/10/15 9:30 AM M/W Class Final Exam Sport Activities and Nutrition 1. Calories Burned During Activity, http://www.nutristrategy.com/cgisys/suspendedpage.cgi 2. I would rate this site very useful if you want to use it as a search engine for different fitness and nutritional sites that will help you find exercises, live healthier, and eat healthier. It does not have any of its own information though, so it is just a search engine for other sites. 3. I would definitely make this site more physically appealing. It is kind of boring with just the orange boxes that lead to other websites. Maybe add a few pictures and use tables with words instead of just boxes with links in them. The title should also be more creative and not completely be the same as the URL. It is too small relative to the websites in the boxes and should show more color or border features. 4. I would add some of my own information to the site such as a small summary of what each site it leads to. Also, I would add content that would describe why the site you would be clicking on is useful to you and how it will benefit your life nutritionally and physically. Maybe even explain what the website’s use is at the top of the home page. 5. All information is accurate because all of the links lead to websites about what they claim to help with. However, there was a strange target.com ad on the weight training workouts and weight lifting exercises tabs. Not sure why this was in these sections, maybe they are sponsoring the website? 6. I could use this website in my future profession of nursing because it would help me look up meal plans and healthy living tips to tell patients so they can have a little education. I can also use it to educate customers at Whole Foods Market, where I work now. 7. There is no calculator or survey on this website, since it is just a search engine. I searched calculator in its search tool, and it just brought me to sites where I can buy different types of calculators. 1. Personal Wellness, http://www.healthyeating.org/Health-WellnessProviders/Workplace-Wellness.aspx?Referer=dairycouncilofca 2. I would rate this site very advanced. It is attractive, has a lot of useful information, is well organized, and has multiple tabs to click on. Domenic Dorisio Technology & Assessment of HES 12/10/15 9:30 AM M/W Class 3. I wouldn’t do too much to this site since it has a stationary tab list while scrolling, may links, social media links, pictures, and colorful text. I would probably link a few more of the pictures and possibly add some pictures on a few pages. Everything in in line so the table use is not necessary to add since it is most likely already used in the construction. 4. This website is already loaded with so much content, I really wouldn’t need to add much. If I did, I would most likely add a just for fun page that is related to spiritual wellness (get your mind off of things and learn how to be one with yourself letting the mind and body relax). I would also add all of the seven dimensions of wellness if they were not already in the site…I couldn’t find them. 5. Yes, this information is accurate. I know because of my education from all of the classes I have taken in my previous years of college as well as the past year and a half at Rowan in the HPWM major. I don’t know everything, but did not notice anything that looked suspicious of being wrong. Also, at the bottom of the site it says that the Dairy Council of California published it, which seems like a good accredited source. It is also titled Dairy Council of California at the top of the page. 6. I could tell my patients to go on this website to educate them about the important aspects of nutrition and also tell or have them complete the nutritional quizzes on the site to better understand their own personal health at this given time and where it should be. 7. I used the calcium quiz. I was very satisfied with this calculator/quiz. It told me that I consume and adequate amount of calcium daily (1,311mg out of the recommended 1,000mg), informed me why calcium is important to my body, and told me how many mg/serving each item I checked off that I ate counts for. 1. Nutrition Calculators, http://www.wvda.org/calcs/ 2. This website is useful in it’s intent. It allows you to click different links to find nutritional calculators and find out things like how many calories you should be consuming daily as well as calculate and keep track of your calories. There is a random dating site on here, which I found was kind of odd though. 3. I would utilize pictures in this site on the sides of the links and maybe change the color of the background arrows to make it more appealing. Domenic Dorisio Technology & Assessment of HES 12/10/15 9:30 AM M/W Class 4. I would add some information about basic nutrition like the macronutrients and some vitamins, rather than just focusing on calories. I would also explain the concept of nutrient density and what “empty calories” are. 5. The information is accurate because it is a search engine. There is not much information to judge from, except for all of the websites that it takes you too which are all relevant besides the dating site. 6. I could use this site in my future profession by calculating different calorie intakes of patients as well as other nutritional information. I can then show them their results or do it with them. 7. I used the calorie calculator tab’s function to use fitness magazine’s BMR calculator. I entered things like my height, weight, age, activity level, and gender. I was calculated to consume 2,899 calories in a day. It told me my carbohydrate, fat, and protein calorie and percentage ranges accurately. 1. Aerobic Steps, http://www.turnstep.com 2. This website is very useful for physical education teachers and aerobics teachers/group trainers since it offers a lot of different exercise ideas for yourself and your classes. 3. I would change the background colors of this website and format some of the bulleted/numbered text on the side better so that it all lines up perfectly. 4. I would add some pictures explaining each exercise and demonstrating it. This site only contains words and people learn more through visuals. 5. Yes, the information is accurate, because it is mostly just on different types of exercises and how to perform each one. There was even some information on the top tabs about movements to avoid so injury does not occur, which was accurate and interesting to read. 6. I could use this site in nursing to give patients ideas about what exercises they could do to rehab that broken leg they came in to get surgery on or were in the emergency room for. If I did chose to apply to PT school rather than nursing then I could implement some of these exercises in my patients programs to increase mobility and strengthen certain muscles that are being rehabbed. 7. I did not find any calculators but I did participate in a survey at the top left of the page asking how often you change your music and I answered every class, as did most other people (55% of the 5 choices given). I also did an exercise frequency poll saying that I did 4 times a week. The most common Domenic Dorisio Technology & Assessment of HES 12/10/15 9:30 AM M/W Class answer of the pol was 5 times per week, with 6 coming in second and 4 coming in third. 1. Calories Burned in Sports, http://www.caloriecount.com/activities-sportsac15 2. This site is very useful to find out how many calories you are burning during specific exercises, for example one of the choices is playing in a basketball game rating in at 544 calories per hour. It is fairly easy to use, you just click on the activity you want and it gives you the calories burned as well as some relative calories that you might consume in your diet. 3. I would definitely make this site a little more interesting by maybe changing the font or color of the text. 4. I would add pictures of each activity and also change the relative calorie intake table function below each calories burned answer to differ and be randomized. No matter what you click on it always says the same thing like Starbucks grande latte, McDonald’s big mac, and a snickers bar. 5. I don’t think that all of the information should be looked at as completely accurate but maybe as more of a motivational guideline. However, Some of it might be correct. It claims that you burn 476 calories per hour while jogging but on runnersworld.com I entered my information for a 7-minute mile including my weight and it said that I only burned 129 calories. I trust this website more because of the title, as well as its use of other factors that play into calorie burning like my weight. 6. I could use this site in my profession by using the BMI tool with my patients and informing them if they are in a healthy range or not and what they can do about it as far as diet and exercise goes. 7. I used the BMI calculator tool and received a score of 23.7, which is a healthy weight as it should be between 18.5 and 24.9 with a reasonable weight loss of 0.5-2.0 pounds per week. ***I already had most of this exam done before realizing there was a medical section (and that we were relating one question to our future profession), which would benefit me in the nursing field. I did look through some of the websites and tabs under that section such as the x-rays, diabetes, prescription drugs, and blood flow in the heart. These were very interesting and I really like how they showed a lot of pictures, videos and even disease risk calculators. The blood flow to the heart was cool to see the circulation in action and I liked how they even showed pictures of EKG’s and explained what each part of it meant like the heart sounds and pressures/volumes! I would share this information with my patients to educate them.
