U12s Match Reports – Crowborough 20th March 2016 After an early start at the airport and a quick coach transfer to Crowborough the squad left the coach ready to play. The coaches asked for total commitment from the start and that is exactly what we got. Our first game was against Hellingly and they showed they came to play. However with good handling our backs managed to get the ball wide and unleash Johnny H for Two tries in quick succession. Mac G and Moses S tackled brilliantly throughout the game leaving Hellingly on the back foot and allowing Max B the opportunity for two interception tries. Finally the backs came into their own again releasing Freddie P for a score. The final score was Jersey 5 Hellingly 0 The second game was played back to back with the first and the boys were fired up against Lewes. Lewes were a tough team who tackled well and tucked strongly. With some great running from Tom D and good kicking from Jakob S for 12 minutes we held Lewes at Bay. Unfortunately a penalty in the last minute of the game resulted in a crash over try for Lewes giving them a hard earned victory. Game three saw Jersey take on Heathfield who presented a stiff challenge. With great support play from Tom H and Callum H and some good defensive play from Oscar R Jersey were again able to utilize their back line to great effect. With scores for Jakob S, Johnny H and Charlie R Jersey ran out winners 3-0. In game number four Jersey faced their toughest challenge in Crowborough. Crowborough started strongly and scored 2 in quick succession. A quick ball from Seb M meant that Max B scored to make it 2-1 going into half time. Jersey held their own throughout the second half with excellent tackling and rucking from Theo D and Mac G and some great darting runs from Anushan E but the team were unable to equalize. Crowborough however managed another breakaway try with their quick number 11 meaning the final score was 3-1 in Crowborough's favour. Our final game of the day saw a tired Jersey run out against Hove. The players had battled hard for 4 games and now needed to raise their game again. Hove were quick to score and this shocked Jersey into action. With good ripping of the ball from Billy M and Mac G the backs got the ball to our wing Jonny H for wide to score making it 1-1 going into half time. Great pressure kicking from our full back Jakob S was an effective weapon and put pressure on Hove's back line. Some good rucking from all the boys allowed Seb M to sneak over for the final try of the tournament. Over all Jersey came 3rd after scoring 11 tries and conceding only 5. With only Lewes the eventual winners conceding less tries. The players performed well and showed outstanding commitment throughout. The style of rugby they played was commented on by many parent and coaches who were all impressed by the players. U12s Match Reports – Crowborough 20th March 2016
