Boston University Club Ice Hockey 2012-­‐2013 SEASON ALUMNI NEWSLETTER New Doors Opening It’s been a difficult and strenuous road for the tough-­‐
willed Red Pups of Boston University, but things are finally taking shape and visions are coming true. When the Nash brothers began the program years back, the team was very limited as to which teams they could play and how far they could travel. Since then, the team has been fortunate enough to receive hard-­‐working and determined athletes, year after year, who love the game of hockey and want to contribute in expanding the program. Thanks to them, the Red Dogs are now not only officially a part of the ACHA, but also an official part of the university as a sanctioned club sports team. Their jerseys now bear the curved “Boston” logo on the front. That’s right boys, no more Red Dogs, although the team is still known around campus by that name. Doughert

Above: Our BU Club Ice Hockey boys represented our school well this past season in the Beanpot, taking down Harvard in the first round to advance to the final against Northeastern. BU didn’t capture the title, but competed well. A Tribute to the Seniors Every year, new players come in and take the place of the graduated Red Dogs legends. As sad as this can be for both the returning roster and the graduates, it is a great step for these young men who have all moved on to bigger and better things. With that being said, we would like to recognize the newest graduates. The new leadership is looking to pick up where the old guard left off. Taking over as President will be Nick Ennis (MET ’13), Vice President will be Nick Kontos (SMG ’13) and the new Treasurer will be Bob Klein (SMG ’14). The captains for the upcoming season are Nick Ennis and Nick Kontos. This season will be the first year the team will play in the competitive Patriot East division of NECHA. The Patriot East consists of Boston College, Northeastern, UConn, Endicott, and Bryant. This requires us to play our divisional opponents in a home and home each year. Additionally, we have 10 games against top-­‐tier non-­‐
divisional opponents and the annual Club Beanpot Tournament. To prepare for the level of play we will need to achieve to be successful this season we have been working hard on and off ice.
