Neighborhood Young Stars:
Featuring - Roman Scott
Roman Scott is in 7th grade and is a straight A+ student, and is in the Duke TIP
and talented and gifted program. In January he took the SAT with the high
school students and scored an impressive 1840! According to the SAT College
Board he scored higher than 82% of college bound seniors. While Roman is
gifted, he has strict disciplined study habits that his parents enforce. He does
sacrifice play time so he can maintain high grades. While many children spend
hours playing video games or are on social media, Roman knows that he has little
time for that. Like most boys his age, he would love to spend more time playing
video games, (Mine Craft in particular). But his mother always admonishes him
and says, “Mine Craft and other video games do not offer college scholarships, so
don’t waste your time getting good at that. Craft your mind by reading and
learning instead.” Roman loves school and his favorite subjects are math and
science. He has attained perfect scores on every STAAR test since he began
taking them in third grade, and has never gotten below a 95 on his report cards.
Roman would like to receive an academic scholarship so he knows that much is
required and attaining high grades is paramount.
During his free time Roman has another skill, and that is playing the piano.
Learning how to play was fortuitous because 2 years ago he got a soccer injury
that forced him to be out for the season. His mother didn’t want him lounging
around so she suggested that he to try to learn an instrument. Much to their
amazement he had a special talent of being able to watch a person’s hands while
they play and then he is able to play the song. He immediately, began taking
piano lessons and can now play over 70 songs by ear, and is also learning how to
read music which he finds a lot more challenging. Roman attributes his talents as
gifts from the Lord. He is very thankful to God for blessing Him and more
The Meadow Vista Messenger 6
importantly, wants to use his abilities to serve the Lord. During the summer he is
a choir pianist at a Christian sports camp.
Mrs. Scott believes that all children have special gifts from the Lord that they
need to develop. Education is important so students need to work hard so they
will be well prepared for college. There is always a price for success and it’s up
to them to be willing to pay it. It’s up to the parents to encourage and enforce
strong study habits because they are not going to do it by themselves. They need
guidance and it’s our job to lead them. It’s the child’s job is to get good grades,
so when they are adults their good grades will provide them with a great jobs.
You can see Roman playing on YouTube under Roman Scott Piano.
Congratulation Roman your neighborhood salutes you!!
Please come! To our next H.O. A. meeting to receive your gift.
