13th October 2015, 5.00 P.M.- DRAMA ROOM A play without words

It will come as a surprise to many I am sure, to learn that Drama is
frequently cited as one of the most useful and relevant subjects to
students for their subsequent careers, indeed for their future lives. If
we think about it, this should not come as a surprise – communication
is arguably the most critical skill in the modern world. Drama develops
this to a high degree and it is a skill that is transferable, as is the quiet
confidence that a course in Drama can engender in young people.
I was, therefore, delighted to learn that Maria Sukhareva won the Top
in Thailand Award for Drama in the June IGCSE Examinations. Having
witnessed some outstanding student productions since I have been at
BIS I feel that this award bears testament to the quality of the Theatre
Arts programme at the school.
My understanding is that research has also shown that Drama has
a positive effect on the learning of other subjects, but I leave this
tantalizing suggestion hanging in cyberspace – I am sure that there is
sufficient information and data somewhere ‘out there’ for your further
consideration.
For now, enjoy the performance... and consider the benefits.
Thank you for supporting the Arts at BISP.
