Byo beers or drinks FOOTBALL REPORT Last weeks game showed great improvement in the team with some big inclusions and although its not the best start for the club in the A Grade in 2011 but its only early and the next 5 games are important. Injuries haven’t helped the cause with 33 players being used so far in the A Grade compared to 34 in the full year in 2010. Players to be injured so far include Corey Finlay, Brodie Cox, Scott Feltus, Ricky Johnson, Daniel Collins, Jarrod Warren, Bradley Amos, Mathew Skull, Ben Trewartha and Daniel Collins. Let get behind the boys in the games to come as the next 5 games are very important. Standouts in the A Grade so far this year have been recruits Lee Schmidt from South Adelaide and David Robinson from Central Augusta together with the evergreen Daniel Dohnt and Jason Lukich. The boys have to get behind them now and we won’t be far away from last year’s form. There was great support for the players auction with the total raised around $6,000 and approximately $3,000 to go back to the club in fundraising. Voting will occur in the 3 weeks since the auction with 70% to the bidders for the best players, 20% for second and 10% for third. Players to go for the highest amount include Lee Schmidt, Jason Lukich and Daniel Dohnt. Please get your money in if you haven’t paid so far The Frederick William HOLMES VC MEDAL or Anzac Day medal went to Daniel Dohnt at the Lions v South Augusta game at Port Augusta Oval. Well done Daniel who has started the year off well. Bradley Amos also played his 100th game for the club and was awarded with the pewter mug recently. Bradley is back with the club this year and holds the club record for A Grade goals kicked in a year, hopefully a few more to come once the driver heals. Struck Congratulations to Sam Maule, son of 1983 premiership player and Fairest and Best Kym Maule who made his A grade debut at the age of 15 years with some valuable touches. Sad to see Daniel Royals transfer to Central Whyalla this year but it was hard travelling back each week for training and games after his relocation with employment. The B grade is travelling well after only losing 2 game in the first five games which is already more than last year. Coach Bluey Bolitho has managed to pick up a few new faces around the club and together with the younger players they look the goods so far. The Thirds are also going well and have lost 2 games so the depth of the club has really improved this year and the coaches have the dilemma of picking a team from large numbers of players which is a good thing in a way but hard at the selection table. Colts update The 2 teams in Under 15s are sitting 2nd and 3rd and it should be an even competition this year. Well done to Michael Curley who was appointed Under 15s coach for Port Augusta and Robert Laube appointed SGL under 15s coach in 2011. The Under 13 and U11 are travelling well under Andrew Reynolds and Noogs Rozee and Keiron Keeler has full control of the Under 9s, if that is possible, with good numbers in all grades. Management Committee news Sad to see the passing of relatives of South Augusta past and present players over the last month or so. Adrian Elliot’s father and Paul and Kym Elliott’s grandfather Alexander, Mark Austin’s sister Leanne and Raelene Struck and Godfrey Struck who are current coach Ryan Struck’s grandparents and Chris Struck’s parents have all died recently. The South Augusta Football club members and supporters offer their condolences to all relatives at this time. Please note the change of date for the Presentation night and 1981 reunion to the 15th October due to the big Suzi Quatro concert coming to town on the 8th October. Invites out soon. Harry is organising the $10 raffle for this year with some good money to be won by the winner, please support Harry buy buying a ticket or selling some books, its all for a good cause, the footy club. Trevor White wishes to thank the volunteers who have helped out over the last month with Harry Waterworth, Kym and Kath Austin and the Shamrock Netball Club crew putting in the hard yards. Whitey needs volunteers on Friday 1st July for the Stirling Campus Formal and he needs table attendants to pick up dishes and help in the kitchen. Give him a call on 86425092 if you can help. Great to see new sponsors on board, Buses r Us have given the club sponsorship funds and Port Augusta Table Tennis Association gave us a cheque for $300 recently and will continue to support the club The website has been an ongoing problem with Uni SA students enhancing the website but they are taking their time to get these changes implemented. When we don’t pay for it, it’s hard for us to complain but for the current new link to the website go to: Link into the website for http://www.communitywebs.org/safc/ LADIES COMMITTEE REPORT: It was a shame we had to cancel our progressive tea but it seems it was a bad night for many and not enough ticket sales enabled us to see this eventuate. Maybe after the season when the weather is a bit warmer for us to enjoy! We have enjoyed some huge social functions at the club since the season has begun. The DJ after the first game was a hit with a great crowd enjoying some action on the dance floor. The “drink a rainbow” cards were a bit of a novelty and plenty of fun was had by all. We have seen some “Beer Pong” practice games, with players preparing for a tournament, along with some clothes swapping - for no apparent reason at all!! For those that were there Kymbo looked fantastic in Emily Coutts’ off the shoulder number. Not sure if Emily will be able to wear the top again but Kymbo looked astonishing! This was topped off with the players review held last weekend. If you were unable to make it, you missed out on some great acts. The night began with the Under 18’s performing their version of “Shuffling”, very entertaining and some terrific footwork amongst the group. We then saw a performance of the “Lazy Song” which saw some monkeys behaving badly! Olivia Newton John’s rendition of “Physical” saw some colourful outfits and some of the boys enjoyed the exercise way too much. The night was capped off by interviews of some club legends. Having said that, the highlight of the evening was the special guest appearance of “Dame Edna Wendy” who travelled all the way to South Augusta to bestow a knighthood on club legend William Baker – a sight for all to see!! The next big even is the “Red and White” ball, which is on Saturday 23 rd July, with local band “The Hooligans” and a DJ. Tickets are available from the bar - $20-00 per head (Under 18’s $15-00). PS: Someone please tell the band & DJ that all future performances of “Eagle Rock” have been banned due to the behaviour of several players – isn’t that correct BROCK!! Jason Di Paolo leaves : All the best to South Augusta Footballer Jason Di Paulo who obtained a transfer to Port Lincoln with Seagrims recently . Jason was very active member in the community; being the Head Coach of the Port Augusta Swimming Club and also coaching the Under 15s juniors for several years with great success and well liked by the players. That pest Michael Curley’s team getting in the way of premiership glory on a few occasions. All the best with the new job Jason and look him up when you’re in Lincoln. Look out for the farewell show on the 13th August 2011 Billy’s Corner.: One of the members of Billys corner and a legend shackie submitted this song which goes to the tune of the Bob Dylan classic “how many times must a man get bogged before he admits that’s he’s wrong, How many times must a man get bogged, before he gets off the bong, my answer my friend is blowing in the wind, the answer is blowing in the wind’. Not sure who he is talking about but could be another shackie within the club. Who was the life member who was making all these fancy arrangements for his 25th wedding anniversary this year when he checked one of the wedding present engravings and discovered its was only his 24th wedding anniversary, Ol well Hungry Jacks is just as good!!! Our head trainer must have too much on his mind!!, Locking his keys in the car 2 nights in a row, Peter does about 5 games every weekend and has been a great asset to the club since his transfer from West’s, he just needs to keep up his RAA subscription.!!! President Gazz Kernahan must be stressed out lately as he decided to back his car back into his sons car before the match against Lions and then needed a jumper lead for a flat battery after the game. Carmen has some car driving lessons arranged soon! South flashbacks 1961- 50 years ago: A grade position: 10th , First year of the Spencer Gulf league.
