Health Child’s Current Action Research Status PRESENTED BY Irongo Daniel 30th October, 2014 About the Project Health Child is implementing a program “Enabling Access to Health: Increasing Community involvement, participation and Responsibility towards Maternal and Child Health” also branded STAR PARENT. The program intends to address the following; Reduced Maternal and Child mortality Increased Skilled Deliveries Increased Birth preparedness Full and on time ANC attendance Increased number of children surviving up to 28 days Increased Male involvement Increased on-time PNC uptake Full and on-schedule immunization Summary Results from the Pilot Action Research in 2013 In 2013,Health Child piloted action research for the ICT tools used in the project. This specifically focused on measuring awareness for existence of the ICT tools used. The results were shared with all C4C partners but the summary is below Community Radio - 65% of the respondents acknowledged listening to health programmes Inspirational Corners - 32.5% of the respondents knew about the health inspirational stories on the Inspirational Corners Text Messages – 60% acknowledged receipt of health text messages from health child. Cont Recommendations from the participants were; Community suggested programmes on the community radio to be aired in a local language. Community also proposed the appropriate time for airing out programmes on the community radio. They also proposed to increase frequency in airing out health programmes on the community radio They recommended stories on inspirational corners to be also put in local languages They recommended messages to be in a local language They also recommended messages for men Thus far and Conclusion Health Child incorporated the results and recommendations from the Action Research while scaling up usage of the ICT tools from February 2014. Thus far, Health Child in in the planning process of conducting action research with focus on measuring impact in terms of knowledge levels.This will first be done for Text messages. From November 2014,Health Child shall conduct a call centre survey for the Text Messages program. The results are expected to be out by the last week of November and in addition to making sense out of the results by Health Child,they will also be shared with C4C partners
