It is imperative that each camper come with an attitude of openness to what is involved in becoming a better person as well as a better basketball player. WHAT TO EXPECT IMS Basketball Camp will emphasize progressive instruction on the basic fundamentals of basketball. Each camper will be taught the proper techniques of shooting, passing, offensive moves, and valuable ball-handling skills as well as defensive techniques, rebounding fundamentals and position play. Camp will be fun! It will also be work! Each camper will be pushed, regardless of skill level, to improve his/her game. MEET THE COACHES Dwight Gingerich —Camp Director Coach Gingerich has been at IMS for 35 years, and also served as Interim Head Coach at Goshen (IN) College, where he received Mid- Central Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2001. His IMS teams have been consistently ranked in the state’s Top 10. Coach Gingerich was named State Coach of the Year in 2007 and was named a National High School Coach of the Year Finalist in 2010. He also received 2017 Conference Coach of the Year honors. He has coached 30 all-state players and his teams have won over 600 games in his career. CAMP STAFF Aaron Gingerich recently completed his third season as the assistant boys’ coach at IMS. Coach Gingerich is passionate about teaching the game and loves to work with young people. He was a key contributor on the IMS ‘05 state runner -up team and holds the school’s career assist record. He played at Bethel (KS) College and teaches Physical Education at IMS. Randy Miller, a 1996 IMS grad, currently teaches 5th grade and coaches the 8th grade team at Panorama Middle School. A long-time camp veteran, Coach Miller brings a high level of energy and enjoyment to our camp each summer. Additional staff will consist of current high school coaches and college and high school players. REGISTRATION Each camper should arrive early the first day to take care of payment. ELIGIBILITY IMS Basketball Camp is open to boys entering grades 5-10. Dwight will also be running the Girls’ Basketball Camps for girls entering 5th-8th grades. The grades 1-4 mini-camp (see below) is open to boys and girls. COST Camp cost continues to be a bargain! Camp costs are listed below according to each session. Please note the hours listed for each session. SIBLING DISCOUNT Sibling discounts result in a savings of $5/camper where there is a total of two campers from the same family. Three or more campers from the same family will result in a savings of $10/camper. WHAT TO BRING Gym shorts, socks, t-shirt, and tennis shoes. The locker rooms will be available for showers. Mini-Camps Grades 1-4 A continuing feature of this year’s camp is the mini-camp for boys and girls going into grades 1-4. Note that grades 1-2 camp will run two days; while grades 3-4 will run three days. Time will be spent primarily on shooting and ball-handling fundamentals. A t-shirt will be included.
