2015/16 Game Report Team Opposition Home/Away Competition Date Score Newcastle Eagles Under 18 Men Doncaster Danum Eagles A EBL Under 18’s National Cup 18th October 2015 Newcastle Eagles 112 - 64 Doncaster Danum Eagles Report The battle of the Eagles took place on Sunday in the National Cup… It was Development League versus Premier North and a huge banana skin for the travelling boys in white…. Doncaster, the home of Coach Bob Martin, is always a really tough place to go and with a one off game it was all stacked in the home teams favour…. The Eagles playing in white and backed by 15 travelling fans were quick out of the tip off as they went 7-17 up in the 4th minute of the 1st period… The starting 5 proved way to strong for the home team in black and even when Coach Heath rotated it was good to see Gabriel Evans and David Underwood contributing points from the bench making it 22-32 at the end of the 10 minutes…. The 2nd quarter was even more one sided as the travelling Geordie players pushed hard on defence and forced numerous turnovers which allowed free flowing offence and often easy lay ups… The period totally belonged to the Newcastle Eagles and they went into the half time team talks 33-69 up…. (11-37) The 3rd period saw the Eagles extend their lead again with some quality press defence and high percentage offence as by the 7th minute they lead 39-96…. Coach Heath rested some of his big hitters and went to his bench rotations for the last 13 minutes of the game… The home team took the final 3 minutes of the 3rd by a score line of 8-0 making it 46 to 96 at the break…. (13-27) The 4th quarter saw a much closer affair as the bench allowed to many easy baskets but competed hard in the early stages as they went on a 4-12 run making it 50-108… The latter stages of the game were all Doncaster as the Eagles lost their way and their focus as they allowed the home team to go on a 14-4 run and the game was done at 64112… (18-16) Coach Heath said “This was a game we could have easily lost but we were head and shoulders above them at both ends of the floor… The last period was a little frustrating as we had a target in mind and we failed to meet it but we did lose focus and allowed them to much freedom…. The pleasing thing was all our players got on the score sheet…. The win now puts us in round 3 where we will face Derbyshire Arrows at home which will be a repeat of this coming Saturday’s league game… This means both teams will have an understanding of each other come the 8th November when the cup match will be played…. The Eagles are in action this Saturday at St Cuthbert High School tip off at 4pm…. Eagles Top Scorers- Aaron Wilson 22, Sean Murphy 18 and Ilja Fjodorovs 15….
