Policy – Youth Playing Time

Policy – Youth Playing Time
Philosophy
Gorge Soccer believes that playing time during games is a critical factor in the development of
individual players. Games provide playing conditions that can be simulated, but not
reproduced, in a training environment. Lack of playing time during games inevitably limits a
player’s ability to improve technically and tactically. At the same time, Gorge Soccer Soccer
Club does not believe that players on its competitive teams (Gold and VIPL) should receive
equal amounts of playing time during games without regard to certain factors, including the
following:
 Commitment to attend (and arrive on time for) practices and games
 Effort, attitude, and behavior during practices and games
 Fitness level
 Ability to work/play well with teammates
In addition, Gorge Soccer believes that technical and tactical abilities should be considered as a
factor (only) for players U-13 and older.

Bronze and silver teams at all ages; all players must have equal playing time in all games,
league or cup.

Gold teams up to U16 inclusive league play, all players must play at least 1/2 of the
game.

Gold teams up to U16 inclusive cup play, all players must play at least 10 minutes per
half.

Gold teams U17 and up, all players must play at least 30 minutes per game (i.e. 15
minutes per half) in all games, league or cup play.

All other players in all other divisions must have an EQUAL amount of playing time per
game.

Any PSA team entered in tournament play, all players must play at least 1/2 of the
game.
