The Longstanton Health Visiting Team is a support service for all children aged
0 - 5 years and their family, registered with Over Surgery, Willingham Surgery,
Longstanton Surgery, Swavesey Surgery, Bar Hill (Maple Surgery), Firs House
Surgery, 42 Telegraph Street Surgery, Waterbeach Surgery, Milton Surgery
and Cottenham High Street Surgery.
There are many ways the Health Visiting Team may be able to support any
member of the family. We are available Monday to Friday from
09:00 - 17:00 (answer machine available).
The aim of the services is to deliver the following through the Healthy Child
Programme (DoH 2009), which includes:

An antenatal contact
New birth visit (10 - 14 days)
6-8 week assessment
10 - 12 month developmental assessment
2 - 2.5 year developmental assessment
Universal health promotion
This list is not exhaustive and the team can also offer:
• Child development advice/support
• Behaviour management
• Feeding advice/issues
• Speech/hearing concerns
•Vision concerns
•Sleep management
•Immunisation advice
•Transfer in visits
•General support
•Safeguarding eg: recognition of indicators of child abuse and vulnerability
What is a Health Visitor?
A Health Visitor is a registered nurse or midwife who has undergone further
training in public health and the assessment of the health needs of individuals,
families and communities. They work as part of a wider team which can consist
of professionals such as nursery nurses, speech therapists, dieticians and
social care. They can visit you in your home, in a Child Health Clinic or a
Childrens Centre.

Children's Centres:

712075. This covers families under 5 years in Cottenham, Histon, Girton,
Impington, Oakington and Rampton.
Waterbeach Children's Centre, Waterbeach Primary School, High Street,
Waterbeach, CB25 9JU. 01223 472791. This covers families under 5 years in
Waterbeach, Bar Hill and Swavesey.
The Children's centres offer a wide range of activities and groups, both free
and paid, to all parents/carers of children aged 0-5 years.
They are also used in conjunction with the Health Visiting Team to run
programmes such as an Introduction to Solids workshop.

9AY. Monday 12:30 - 14:30pm (Excluding bank holidays) (Jointly run by
NHS clinical staff, Volunteers and Lactation Consultants)
• Brookfields Health Centre, Seymour St, Cambridge CB1 3DQ. Fridays
13:30 - 15:00pm (Run by NHS Clinical staff, Volunteers and Lactation
