Surface Preparation - The exterior steel surface is blast cleaned to Steel Structures Painting Council
Surface Preparation Specification No. 6 (SSPC-SP6) requirements utilizing cast steel abrasives conforming
to the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Recommended Practice J827. The blast method used is a
recirculating, closed cycle centrifugal wheel system with abrasive conforming to SAE Shot Number S280.

Product Application - Steel structures, steel components and aluminum accessories purchased with steel
structures. Use this system for intermediate performance of paint wear and moderate corrosion protection.
Interior Coating - Interior surfaces (pole shafts only) at the base end for a length of approximately 2.0’ are
coated with the same coating used on the exterior. The coating is electrostatically applied and cured in a gas
fired convection oven.
Prime Coat - High Build Epoxy Powder. Epoxies are used as a primer under various exterior durable topcoats. They add film build, corrosion resistance, chip resistance, and adhesion. They are not color stable when
exposed to UV light and must be top-coated for gloss and color retention. The prime coat is applied to an
average dry film thickness (DFT) of 5 mils on the bottom 8’ of the pole. The average dry film thickness (DFT) is
3 mils above 8’ and on the arms.
The exterior coating is applied to an average dry film thickness (DFT) of 3 mils. The coating is electrostatically
applied and cured in a gas fired convection oven. The thermosetting powder resin provides adhesion that
meets 5A or 5B classifications of ASTM D3359.
The V-PRO 53 finish system is available in 11 standard colors that match the most commonly used colors in
the industry. There are thousands of other colors available upon request.

Carbon Steel - Powder
Exterior Coating - Super Durable Powder. Super Durable powders are very similar to the TGIC Polyesters
as far as their use, but offer better exterior gloss and color retention. They can be used as single coat systems
over most metal substrates for mild to moderate exposure conditions. They offer good scratch and abrasion
resistance. Most Super Durables will meet the requirements of AAMA 2604 for gloss and color retention.
