Preview: Round 18 – March 4, 2017
By Alan “Doc” Hancock
The final roster round of BCL will be played this weekend, with the top two Riana and
Natone freshening up for the Second Semi-Final. Riana will finish top and grab a home final
against Natone. Only two finalists will line up this last round, West Ridgley and Acton.
West will take on the Smithton Stars at Ridgley and will be tuning up against one of the
competitive sides in the competition. The Stars have been the most unluckiest team this
season, their first in BCL. Again last week just going down to Myalla, but have shown a lot of
pluck in the season and brought on some exciting youngsters. Again this week they may go
down to a revitalized Chipmunks outfit, but no doubt hoping to take a scalp in their swan
song for the year.
Acton travel to Wynyard to have a crack at the Myalla Tigers. The Rangers will be hoping to
reverse their last two games, chasing runs. The Tigers will be no push over, but the Rangers
badly need a win going in to the finals. If they can get an early breakthrough, they might just
grab the upper hand, but that is what’s cost them in recent weeks, that all important
breakthrough.
Forest-Stanley will play Stowport under the Nut. With nothing riding on this game, expect a
tight encounter with both teams wishing to finish the roster season with a win. Possibly the
home side just.
In B grade, the match of the round will be at Yolla. Yolla in second spot, just a game in front
of West Ridgley. This game will have veterans on both sides, so expect a keenly fought
tussle. Acton should finish top. Another interesting game will be Somerset and Stowport, if
the Strikers win and Ridgley beat Riana, on Sunday, Somerset go in and Riana out.
Finally in C grade, Ridgley (fifth), needs to beat Stowport and hope Stowport Colts lose to
Acton Green, on Sunday. If Colts win, they will finish third. Acton Red on top and Natone
currently third, await what happens.
